Diagnostic Images

Column Display     Related Tasks     Related Topics

A diagnostic image is a file that contains a snapshot, or dump, of a server's state and configuration data. Support personnel can use this data for post-failure analysis.

Use this page to force a server to write its diagnostic image (capture the image). You can also use this page to capture a diagnostic image for a partition.

The diagnostic image contains such data as the state and configuration of a server and its subsystems along with any data harvested from diagnostics modules that you have configured. For example it describes the value of the log cache, the status of work managers, and the JNDI state.

If WebLogic Server is configured with Java HotSpot VM, and Flight Recorder is enabled, the diagnostic image capture includes WebLogic Server diagnostic data in a Flight Recorder file, which can be viewed in Java Mission Control.

The volume of data that is produced for the Flight Recorder file in the diagnostic image can be customized. To use this capability, you must enable Flight Recorder and set the WLDF diagnostic volume to Low, Medium, or High. If WebLogic Server is configured with HotSpot, Flight Recorder is disabled by default. For information about how to enable Flight Recorder in a WebLogic Server instance that is configured with HotSpot, see Related Topics.
