Create event data policies for a diagnostic system module

Before you begin

Create diagnostic system modules

To create an event data policy:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the left pane, expand Diagnostics and select Diagnostic Modules.
  3. On the Summary of Diagnostic Modules page, click the name of the module for which you want to create a policy.
  4. On the Settings for [Module Name] page, select Configuration > Policies and Actions > Policies.
  5. Click New.
  6. On the Create a Policy page, do the following:
    1. Enter a name for the policy in the Policy Name field.
    2. Select Event Data from the Policy Type list.
    3. To enable or disable the policy, select or deselect the Enable Policy box.
  7. Click Next.
  8. On the Configure Policy Expressions page, enter your policy expressions.
  9. Click Next.
  10. On the Configure Policy Alarm page, select an alarm option. This setting determines when a policy expression will be re-evaluated after it evaluates to true. If a policy is configured as an alarm, then the policy will not be evaluated again until the alarm is reset.
    • Select Do not use an alarm if you want the policy expression to continue to be evaluated without resetting it.
    • Select Use a manual reset alarm if you want to indicate manually when you want the policy expression to be re-evaluated
    • Select Use an automatic reset alarm if you want the policy expression to be re-evaluated after a specified time. If you select this option, you must also enter the reset period (in seconds) in the Automatic Reset Period field.
  11. Click Next.
  12. On the Configure Policy Actions page, you can assign scaling and other diagnostic actions to the policy.

To assign a scaling action to this policy, select an action in either Choose a Scale Up Action or Choose a Scale Down Action. Alternatively, you can click New Scale Up Action or New Scale Down Action to create a new scaling action for this policy. Note: You can only assign one scaling action to a policy.

To assign diagnostic actions to the policy, select and move one or more existing actions from the Available list to the Chosen list. (You can associate one or more actions with a single policy.) To create actions, see Create actions for policies in a diagnostic system module.

  13. Click Finish.
  14. In the Change Center, click Activate Changes.
