A catalog contains a collection of other commerce assets: categories, products, and SKUs. Categories organize products into a hierarchy. A category may contain products, other categories, and child catalogs. For example, a category called Women’s Sweaters might contain two categories: Short-Sleeved and Long-Sleeved. A product exists under a category and is represented by one or more stock keeping units (SKUs). Each SKU represents a unique attribute or combination of attributes, such as material, size, or color.

A single site can use more than one catalog. For example, each catalog could contain a unique group of products and categories.

In a multisite environment, a catalog can be associated with one or more registered sites.
