x86: How to Boot From an Alternate Boot Environment

Before You Begin

Ensure that your role has the appropriate rights profiles to perform this procedure. See Using Rights Profiles to Administer Boot Features.

  1. Display the GRUB menu.
    $ bootadm list-menu
  2. Reboot the system from the entry you want to use.
    $ reboot index-number

In this example, the selected alternate boot environment is Oracle Solaris 11.s B14.

$ bootadm list-menu
the location of the boot loader configuration files is: /rpool/boot/grub
default 1
timeout 30

$ reboot 1
