---|---|---|
Oracle Data Gatherer |
Part of the Oracle Enterprise Manager framework and is used for collecting performance data. |
Oracle Enterprise Manager Performance Monitoring User's Guide |
Oracle Parallel Server Option |
Enables you to run multiple Oracle instances on a single Oracle database. This option requires a separate license. |
|
Oracle Patch Assistant |
Enables you to quickly and easily download and install patches for your Oracle products on Windows NT and Windows 95. |
|
Oracle8 Time Series Cartridge |
Stores and retrieves timestamped data through object data types (ODTs). This cartridge is a building block for applications, rather than being an end-user application. For example, applications can use this cartridge to process historical data derived from financial market transactions, such as trades of stocks, bonds, and mutual fund shares. This option requires a separate license. |
|
Oracle8 Visual Information Retrieval Cartridge |
Stores, retrieves, and manipulates image data managed by an Oracle8 database. Oracle8 Visual Information Retrieval Cartridge supports image storage using Binary Large Objects (BLOBS) and references to image data residing in external files (BFILEs). This cartridge is a building block for various imaging applications, rather than being an end-user application. This option requires a separate license and the Oracle8 Image Cartridge. |
|
Oracle Home Selector |
Allows you to prioritize your Oracle Home directory when using multiple Oracle home functionality. |
Although the Oracle8 Enterprise Edition for Windows NT CD-ROM in your kit contains many Oracle products, you may install and use only those products for which you have purchased licenses. For additional licensing information, refer to the Global License Terms booklet in your kit. Oracle Worldwide Customer Support does not provide support for products where licenses have not been purchased.
When you run Oracle Installer, a dialog box displays several product installation options. If you choose Oracle8 Enterprise Edition or Oracle8 Client, a group of products are automatically installed. If you choose Custom Installation, you can selectively install products. Available options depend upon the operating system you are using:
Operating System | Installation Option |

Legato Storage Manager (LSM) 4.4 Using Oracle8 Recovery Manager (RMAN80) for Oracle database backups requires the installation of a media management product in order to back up and restore from tape storage. You can choose to install the media management product supplied with Oracle8 Enterprise Edition, which is LSM, or use a third-party media management product which also complies with Oracle's Backup Solutions Program (BSP). LSM also includes a scaled-down version of Legato NetWorker. LSM has its own installer; it is not installed by Oracle Installer. You are given the option of installing LSM during installation. For more information on this product, call toll free (1) 888-8-LEGATO in the United States of America, or visit Legato's Oracle backup and recovery web site: http://www.backup-oracle.com/ |

Net8 establishes and maintains a connection between the client application and the server and exchanges messages between them. Net8 is a software layer that is required to communicate between Oracle clients and servers. It provides both client/server and server-server communications across any network. It enables client tools to access, modify, share, and store data on Oracle8 Enterprise Edition servers over a network. See Net8 Getting Started for Windows NT and Windows 95 for detailed information on each Net8 product. |

Oracle Protocol Adapters map Transparent Network Substrate (TNS) functionality to industry-standard protocols used in client/server connections. Each protocol adapter maps the equivalent functions between TNS and a specific protocol. Net8 Client and not oracle Installer force installs Oracle Named Pipes Protocol Adapter, and auto-detects TCP/IP and SPX. TP/IP and SPX are only installed in the installation packages if the appropriate software is detected on your system. If you explicitly select these Oracle Protocol Adapters in the Custom Installation option, they will be installed even if you do not have the appropriate software on your system. See Net8 Getting Started for Windows NT and Windows 95 for detailed information on each protocol adapter. |
