Material and Distribution Requirements Planning

Material requirements planning (MRP) and distribution requirements planning (DRP) calculates organization-specific net requirements from gross requirements by evaluating:

the master schedule

bills of material

sourcing rules

supply chain bills

scheduled receipts

on-hand inventory balances

production and transportation lead times

order modifiers

It then plans replenishments by creating a set of recommendations to release or reschedule orders for material based on net material requirements. These planned orders are assigned to a predefined replenishment structure, stated in:

discrete quantities with due dates

repetitive build rates with first/last unit start dates
