New Requirement to Include DLLs in Upgrade Wizard Kit

See Preparing Contents for a Siebel Upgrade Wizard Upgrade Kit and Defining a Siebel Upgrade Wizard Upgrade Kit.

Beginning with Siebel release 7.7, if a release requires the Upgrade Wizard to be upgraded, the Upgrade Wizard upgrade kit type must be used, and specific files must be included in the kit, including a number of DLL files. To determine whether your current release requires an upgrade to the Upgrade Wizard, see the release-specific documentation for the release. If an Upgrade Wizard upgrade kit is required, it must be created and installed before any other type of upgrade kit is installed for the release.

New Delta Install Kit Type for Siebel Client Executables

See About Reducing Siebel Client Executables Kit Size.

Beginning with Siebel release 7.7.2, the size of upgrade kits for Siebel Client Executables can be reduced for some releases by using a Delta Install type of Siebel Client Executables upgrade kit. Delta Install kits contain information about changes to client executable files, instead of complete, new versions of those files.

This version of the documentation also contains the following general changes:

  • Changed the following navigation path, throughout this guide:

View > Site Map changed to Navigate > Site Map

  • The diffsrf.exe executable was referred to as the Siebel Delta Patch Utility in an earlier version of this document. The diffsrf.exe executable is now called the Siebel Delta SRF Utility, to distinguish it from the Siebel Patch Utility (siebpatch.exe).
  • Information has been added about preparing files for inclusion in Siebel Client Executable upgrade kits.
  • Information has been added about synchronizing server components before defining upgrade kits.
  • Information has been added about uninstalling client files associated with Siebel Maintenance Releases and patches.
  • Troubleshooting information has been added about an Upgrade Kit Wizard error message that is sometimes received at the end of the upgrade kit definition process.

Support and Special Requirement for Upgrading Certain Siebel Client Executables

See Defining a Siebel Client Executables Upgrade Kit and Upgrade Guide.

Siebel Anywhere can be used to upgrade Siebel client executables from version 7.5.x to version 7.7. However, a special Siebel Client Customer Revisions_[language-code] upgrade kit must be prepared and used before the executables are upgraded.

A special kit is not required for upgrades of Siebel client executables from version 7.7 to any version 7.7 maintenance release.

New Delta SRF Feature

See Process of Creating a Delta Repository File Upgrade Kit.

Beginning with Siebel release 7.7, Siebel Anywhere supports two kinds of Repository File upgrade kits: standard repository file upgrade kits, which contain complete SRF files, and delta repository file upgrade kits, which contain only changes to a Siebel Repository File.

The use of delta repository file upgrade kits decreases the amount of time needed for distributing repository changes to Siebel clients.

Change to Upgrade Kit Wizard Version Fields

See How Siebel Anywhere Versions Work and Applying an Upgrade Kit.

Component Minimum Version and Component Maximum Version fields no longer appear in the Siebel Anywhere Upgrade Kit Wizard for any type of upgrade kit. The settings that correspond to these fields now appear only in the Apply Upgrade Kit Version Information dialog box, where they have the respective field names of Min Version and Max Version. Values for these fields are supplied automatically. Conceptual information in this guide now reflects these changes.

Enhancement to Upgrade Kit Wizard for Customer Revisions Upgrade Kit

See Defining a Siebel Customer Revisions Upgrade Kit.

The Upgrade Kit Wizard now offers a choice of methods for specifying files to add to Customer Revisions upgrade kits. You can either specify individual files, one by one, or you can use a UNC Path to identify a directory that contains all the files you want to add to the kit.

When a kit of this type includes a file to be executed, the Upgrade Kit Wizard also now allows you to specify a numeric code that the executed file will return upon successful execution.

Enhancement to Upgrade of Configuration (CFG) Files

See Defining a Siebel Configuration File (CFG) Upgrade Kit.

In Siebel releases 7.0 and release 7.5, in implementations where some clients used different installation directories than others, it was necessary to use a cfgedit.exe executable to change certain lines in CFG files, rather than distributing one CFG file to all users. Beginning with release 7.7, the cfgedit.exe executable is no longer needed. A single CFG file can be distributed to all users, regardless of differences in installation directories. The Upgrade Wizard will detect these differences and make the appropriate modifications automatically.

Change in How Upgrade Wizard Upgrades Itself

Siebel release 7.7 changes how the Upgrade Wizard upgrades itself. In prior releases, the Upgrade Wizard executable, siebupg.exe, was copied to siebupg1.exe, and the copy was run to allow the original to be upgraded. In Siebel release 7.7, the siebupg.exe file is copied to another directory, but keeps the same name. Again, the copy is run to allow the original to be upgraded. Obsolete information concerning the former method of operation has been removed from this guide.

This version of the documentation also contains the following general changes:
