Installing the Siebel Web Server Extension

To install Siebel eBusiness Applications, you must have 50-100 MB of disk space on your system drive (usually C:) even if you intend to install Siebel eBusiness Applications into another drive. This space is used as a temp directory.

The installation program sets up the Siebel directory structures, copies required files and components to the target disk, and configures the host environment.

Multiple-version instances of the SWSE on a single Web server are not supported in a production environment.

To prevent installation problems related to permissions, the user who installs the SWSE should be the same user or have the same permissions as the user who installed the Web server instance.

To avoid DVD swapping, copy all installation files, including the required language files, to a common installation directory within your system or use the Network Image Creator. For more information, see Selecting Your Media for Installation. If you elect not to install directly from DVD, you will not see some of the prompts regarding swapping the DVD in the following procedure.

NOTE:  The following procedure is for installing the base product. For patch installation instructions, refer to the Maintenance Release Guide provided with the patch.

To install the Siebel Web Server Extension under Windows

  1. Log on as the OS administrator.
  2. If you are installing from DVD, insert the appropriate DVD for the Siebel applications into the DVD drive of the chosen server:
    • Siebel eBusiness Applications, Base Applications for Windows
    • Siebel Industry Applications, Base Applications for Windows

NOTE:  The volume label for the DVD is seawinunibase (for Siebel eBusiness Applications) or siawinunibase (for Siebel Industry Applications).

  3. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the root directory of the DVD or to the appropriate network directory, if you are installing from a network image.
  4. Navigate to Windows\Server\Siebel_Web_Server_Extension and double-click setup.exe.

The Welcome to InstallShield Wizard for Siebel Web Server screen appears.

  5. Click Next.
  6. Depending on whether you are installing your Siebel Web Server Extension for the first time or adding a new language to an existing instance, take the appropriate action:
  7. Select the Language Pack or packs you are installing for the Siebel Web Server Extension and click Next.

Servers are installed, at a minimum, with a primary (base) language, which is the primary language in which the Siebel Enterprise will run. Optionally, servers may have one or more additional languages installed on them. You should install all the Language Packs that you want on your Web server before you configure the SWSE.

    The installer validates installation requirements.

NOTE:  If you did not install the Microsoft IIS software on this machine, a prompt appears, informing you that you must have it installed to continue. Click Cancel or Next and the installer will quit. Install the software, and then restart the installation.

  8. On the Program Folder screen, click Next to accept the default program shortcut or modify the program folder name to a desired name and then click Next.

The installer displays the location into which it will install the Siebel Web Server Extension. It also displays the file size.

The installer proceeds to install the specified files. After the files have been copied to the installation location, this message appears:

Setup did not find the lang language pack on the current media. Please insert the DVD containing the lang language pack and select the setup.exe file from the lang folder.

    where:

lang = The code for the language you are installing, such as enu for U.S. English.

NOTE:  For Siebel Industry Applications, the Windows and UNIX Language Packs are on different DVDs.

  9. Remove the current DVD from the drive and insert the appropriate Language Pack DVD.

A dialog box titled Navigate to the executable on the lang Language Pack DVD appears and displays a file called siebel.ini. However, you do not need to do anything with this file.

  10. Double-click setup.exe under Windows\Server\Siebel_Web_Server_Extension\lang (where lang is the code for the Language Pack you are installing, such as enu.)

A message appears, stating that language files are being installed.

When all language files installed, a new message box appears, stating:

Please re-insert the base DVD and browse to the Windows\Server\Siebel_Web_Server_Extension\setup.exe to enable setup to continue.

  11. Click OK.

After all Siebel Web Server Extension files installed, the Siebel Software Configuration Wizard for Siebel Web Server Extension launches.

  12. Select one of the following options to continue:
    • Continue with configuring SWSE. For detailed instructions, see Configuring the Siebel Web Server Extension.
    • Close out of the Siebel Software Configuration Wizard and configure later. If you choose to close out of the Siebel Software Configuration Wizard and to configure later, the installer displays the message:

The InstallShield Wizard has successfully installed the Siebel Enterprise Server. Click Finish to exit the Wizard.

  13. Click Finish.
