Installing the Java Runtime Environment

During the Java Runtime (JRun) installation, you will be prompted to install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.2 or above.

These instructions are based on Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition, Version 1.3.1.

To install the Java Runtime Environment

Navigate to Sun Microsystem's Web site and download the JRE installer to the directory where you are installing the Distance Learning server.
To verify the installation file is an executable file, run the following command: chmod a+x <filename for JRE installer>.
Run the JRE installer.
