Unicode character set

A character set defined by the Unicode Consortium that is the union of most of the major character sets used in the computing industry.

uniform resource locator (URL)

The address of a Web site on the Internet or on a corporate intranet.

universal agent

See agent.

Universal Time Code (UTC)

Local time calculated in hours difference from the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) at longitude zero. Used interchangeably with GMT. The Siebel database stores all times as Tonsures (an integer) and converts these to local times for display in the user interface.

UNIX

A multiuser, multitasking operating system written in the C programming language.

unstructured data

Complex objects that cannot be dissected easily. Examples are a business report, a fax, a spreadsheet, a bitmap image, an engineering diagram, and an MP3 file.

update conflict

A conflict in which two database change transactions attempt to update the same field in the same row. See also conflict detection and conflict resolution.

upgrade kit

A set of data, specified by a Siebel administrator, that is used to update installed Siebel application files such as the Siebel repository file. The upgrade kit is distributed through Siebel Anywhere.

upload

To transmit information from a client to a server.

user credentials

The information presented by the user at login to identify himself or herself.

User data

All records that are created within the application, including view names, responsibilities, entries in the list of values (LOV), Accounts, Contacts and so on.

user interface object definitions

Object definitions that reside in the user interface objects layer created in Siebel Tools. They define the visual interface that the user sees and interacts with. Data from business object definitions is presented to the user for viewing and modification by means of user interface object definitions. These include the Applet object type and its child object types, View and Screen, and the object types used to implement toolbars, menus, and the Find dialog box.

user primary key

In a database table, one or more columns whose values produce a unique identifier for each row. Typically, these values have meaning for the user (such as first and last name). See also system primary key.

user responsibility

The definition of the information that a given user is permitted to see. Generally determined by the system administrator.

user-interface-level integration

Integration by accessing existing applications through the Siebel application user interface.

username

The portion of the user credential that the user presents to identify himself or herself.
