  2. Select the Detect Bar Codes field.

  3. If your scanner has built-in bar code detection, select Use Hardware Detection and skip the remaining steps. Otherwise, leave Use Software Detection selected.

  4. In the Types to Detect field, select the bar code types you want Scan to detect. Click Select All to select all bar codes listed. The fewer types you select, the faster images are processed.

  5. In the Orientations to Detect field, select the orientation of the bar code on the scanned paper. Selecting all three orientations (Horizontal, Vertical and Diagonal) is recommended, as scanned images may be skewed.

  6. In the Detect by Height and Minimum Height fields, specify the page amount you want searched for bar codes (if known). Reducing the amount searched increases detection speed.

  7. In the Detect by Length field, specify the number of characters in bar codes to detect (if known). This increases detection speed and accuracy. Detected bar codes that do not match that length are ignored.

  8. Select the Return Raw Data field to return any special characters in bar code values. (This setting is typically for diagnostic purposes only.)

  9. If poor quality images will be scanned using this profile, select the Use MultiBand Analysis field. Selecting this field, however, may increase processing time.

  10. In the Apply to fields, specify the image area on which you want bar codes detected. Specifying the bar code's location on the scanned page will increase performance and reduce processing time.

  11. Save the profile.

2.8.3 Detecting and Removing Blank Pages

  3. In the Page is Blank If field, specify the maximum noise allowed for a page to be considered blank. You can choose:

    • Pristine White: Considered a blank page if total black pixels on the page are less than 0.01% of total pixels.

    • Dirty White (default): Considered a blank page if total black pixels on the page are less than 0.5% of total pixels.

    • Very Dirty White: Considered a blank page if total black pixels on the page are less than 1% of total pixels.

    • One Line OK: Considered a blank page if clusters of black pixels (that might be considered text) are found on the page

  4. Save the profile.

2.8.4 Detecting Patch Codes

Follow these steps to specify whether patch codes are detected during scanning. You can use patch codes detected during scanning in index profiles to separate documents.

Note:
