Creating Subscriptions

Subscriptions can be applied to almost any record type in the Registry. Once the subscription has been established you will be notified whenever the record is updated.

To Create a Subscription to One or More Records

  1. In the Catalog tab, Search out or Browse to a record or set of records. This should return a list view of the desired record type.

  2. If you want to select only one or a few records, check the box in the left most field of any record to which you wish to subscribe. Note that links in the bottom left corner of the page let you...

    • Select all records on the page.

    • Clear (deselect) all records on the page.

  3. In the drop down Action list box under the record list choose an option.

    • Subscribe to Selected...

    • Subscribe using this Search(Available in Searches) - lets you subscribe to a query whose results match all records found in the current search result.

  4. Click the Go button to start the Create new subscription wizard.

  5. Review the set of records to which you are subscribing and define the parameters of your subscription.

If you are creating this subscription from Subscribe Using this Search the subscription filter gives you a chance to review the record list to which you are subscribing.

If the record or set is correct continue with defining subscription properties. This means...

    • Email Address - The email address to which notifications will be sent. This can be selected in the drop down list box or entered in the field just above it. If you select No notifications you will still be notified of and can easily search for changes through your Home tab or the Tools tab.

If you selected No notifications the remaining subscription properties will not apply. You can continue to the next step.

    • Notification Interval - Amount of time that will elapse between the sending of notification messages.

    • Notifications Expire After - Date upon which this subscription dies. If the subscription should never automatically expire check the Never expires radio button.

    • Maximum Updates to Send - The maximum number of updates to be sent before the subscription expires.

    • Suppress Empty Notifications - Normally, notifications are sent at the end of each notification interval. If no changes have occurred in the record during the previous interval the notification message will be empty. Checking this box tells the registry to refrain from sending these extra messages.

    • Send Raw XML - Send notifications in a raw XML format. The message structure is defined in the Subscription Schema at UDDI and will contain the record or list of records to which you have subscribed in a UDDI Data structure format such as businessService or tModel.

Raw XML views are useful in tandem with XSLT transforms or automated processes.

  6. Once the Subscription properties have been set click the Finish button. If you have the correct permissions to publish this subscription, a success message will load listing the name and type of your new subscription.

You will no be periodically notified of the state of the record or set of records to which you have subscribed.

The Subscription Filter

The subscription filter appears when you have selected to subscribe to a query that returns a set of records. You can view the record set by clicking the Preview Query button on the Create new Subscription page. This loads a common list view which you can filter when inspecting larger record sets.

Note that this preview only allows you to inspect the records to which you are creating a subscription. Filtering this view does not effect or reduce the set of records to which you are subscribing.
