Defining Data Sets for Disconnected Analytics

Sourcing reports populate local database tables using a data delivery mechanism called a data set. A data set is a logical entity that allows you to group (organize) tables for efficient deployment. Data sets are a way to deliver data to mobile users and do not affect the local application database structure. For example, facts change more often than dimensions and data from fact tables would typically be provided to mobile users more often. Therefore, you might decide to assign facts and dimensions to separate data sets so that these more frequent updates would be smaller. If data from external sources such as syndicated data (obtained from data syndication agencies) needs to be sent to users, this data could be put into a third data set.

You specify data sets in an application configuration file. An application configuration file describes one or more data sets and each data set references one or more tables. Tables should be grouped in a data set based on the way you organize your business. Each table is associated with a sourcing report. Siebel Analytics Web uses this sourcing report to query the Analytics Server, obtain data, and package it into a data set for delivery.

CAUTION:  It is the administrator's responsibility to ensure data consistency and integrity. For example, if you create a new data set that contains new dimensional records and do not update the corresponding facts data set, the mobile database might provide incorrect results.
