Configuring Machines (Step1)

This section describes how to add a machine to your application or modify the properties of an existing machine.

Adding A Machine to the Configuration Tree

To add a machine:

  1. Select a machine on the list in the right panel.

  2. Click Add on the Configuration Toolbar.

    The Machine Properties window is displayed. At this point you can define the properties of the machine. See Modifying Machine Properties for information on defining machine properties.

    Note: The only required properties are the Logical Machine ID and the Application Directory field. If you are running the Configuration Expert on the master machine of the application, the default value for the application directory is the value of the application location that you specified when you created the application.

  3. When you have filled in the fields, click OK to save your changes and close the window.

Modifying Machine Properties

You can change the following properties of a machine in the configuration tree:

General Machine Properties

To define the general machine properties:

  1. Select the General tab on the Machine Properties window as shown in Figure 3-8.

    The following table explains the fields available on the General Machine Properties window.

    Field Description

    Logical Machine ID

    Name for the machine that you assign. The corresponding BEA TUXEDO machine parameter is LMID.

    Application Directory

    Place where your application servers are located. The corresponding BEA TUXEDO machine parameter is APPDIR.

    Environment File

    Refers to an environment file that contains the environment variables for all of the BEA TUXEDO clients and servers on that machine. The corresponding BEA TUXEDO machine parameter is ENVFILE.

  2. When you have filled in the fields, click OK to save your changes and close the window.

Limits Machine Properties

To define the limit properties for the selected machine:

  1. Select the Limits tab on the Machine Properties window as shown in Figure 3-9.

    The following table explains the fields available on the Limits Machine Properties window.

    Field Description

    Maximum Number of Native Clients

    Maximum number of native clients you can assign to this machine.

    Maximum Number of WS Clients

    Maximum number of WorkStation clients you can assign to this machine. The corresponding BEA TUXEDO parameter is MAXWSCLIENTS.

  2. When you have filled in the fields, click OK to save your changes and close the window.

Network Machine Properties

To define the network properties for the selected machine:

  1. Select the Network tab on the Machine Properties window as shown in Figure 3-10.

    The following table explains the fields available on the Network Machine Properties window.

    Field Description

    BRIDGE Listener Port

    TCP/IP port number to be used by the BRIDGE process.

    Tlisten Listener Port

    TCP/IP port number to be used by the tlisten process.

    USER ID

    Specific USER ID of the BEA TUXEDO administrator on that machine
    (UNIX only). The corresponding BEA TUXEDO machine parameter is UID.

    GROUP ID

    Specific GROUP ID of the BEA TUXEDO administrator on that machine
    (UNIX only). The corresponding BEA TUXEDO machine parameter is GID.

  2. When you have filled in the fields, click OK to save your changes and close the window.
