The Sun Java System Content Delivery Server Reference Manual provides an architectural overview of the Content Delivery Server. It also describes the concepts used within the Content Delivery Server such as content protection, billing, workflows, provisioning and more. This document is written for anyone who works on or with the Content Delivery Server such as system administrators, integrators, Catalog Manager and Vending Manager administrators who want to understand the basic concepts of the Content Delivery Server and how the various parts of Content Delivery Server work together.
Before You Read This Document
This guide assumes you to have some knowledge of networking, database, and web technologies. This guide is a reference source for the Content Delivery Server and does not describe how to set up or run the Content Delivery Server. For specific information on installing, customizing, working with the administrative consoles, and so on, see the documentation described in Related Documentation.
How This Document Is Organized
This guide is divided into the following chapters:
- Chapter 1 introduces the Content Delivery Server and describes the content life cycle as it relates to the Catalog Manager and Vending Manager. It describes the automatic content validation process that the Content Delivery Server performs on submitted content.
- Chapter 2 describes the processes used by the Catalog and Vending Managers to manage content, accounts, and plans.
- Chapter 3 describes how Content Delivery Server interacts with an existing billing system and subscriber database.
- Chapter 4 provides general information about content such as the difference between content and content editions, streamed content, content submissions, searching for content, custom fields, and content popularity.
- Chapter 5 describes digital rights management (DRM) supported in Content Delivery Server, how to associate DRM agents with content, and how to enable or disable DRM for content.
- Chapter 6 describes the pricing models and pricing options associated with content.
- Chapter 7 defines the device definition tags that you can use to create a device defintion file to import devices to the Catalog Manager. A sample file is also provided.
- Chapter 8 describes the device capabilities that you can specify for the devices that you use with the Content Delivery Server.
- Chapter 9-C H A P T E R provides a sample of specifications for a device and a blank table of specifications that can be used for user-defined devices.
- The Glossary defines the terms used in the context of this guide.
