Configuring Unmanaged Devices

The Ethernet Port represents connectivity between a farm and unmanaged devices external to an I-Fabric. Adding an Ethernet Port to your farm design is one step in connecting a device that cannot be configured and managed with the software.

After a farm is activated, the device must be physically connected to the provisioned switch port.

You must connect the unmanaged device manually before activating a farm that uses the unmanaged device. The following procedure describes configuration of the Ethernet Port by using the Editor screen in the Control Center.

If you select the device type “Unknown Device”, consider the following information.

Steps
  1. Perform the following command-line procedure. To Add an Unmanaged Ethernet Device in N1 Provisioning Server 3.1, Blades Edition, System Administration Guide.

  2. Log into the Control Center as an administrator.

  3. Click the Synchronize System button.

  4. Open the farm design and double-click the Ethernet Port element.

    The Configure Ethernet Port dialog box appears.

  5. Type the name in the Name field.

  6. Type notes or comments into the Notes field.

  7. In the Type field, select the device type.

    The IP Address for the Ethernet Port is assigned when the farm is activated.

  8. Click OK.

    The Configure Ethernet Port dialog box is closed.
