Sun releases periodic updates for the system BIOS. These updates contain fixes, patches, drivers, and other enhancements. The releases usually contain new firmware for both the BIOS and service processor (SP). The BIOS and SP are dependent upon one another for optimum server operation. When you perform an update, you must use the BIOS designed for your server, and you should always update both the BIOS and the SP together.
Note - Sun recommends that you always update and maintain your servers to the latest firmware release.
Announcements and information about firmware releases are available in the Product Notes documentation for your server. See Sun Fire X4640 Server Product Notes.
Information about how to update firmware is available in Updating Firmware in Sun ILOM 3.0 Supplement for the Sun Fire X4640 Server
