OSPFv3 Administration Guide
You can create an OSPFv3 interface by interfacing with IPv6. This process facilitates the transmission and reception of protocol packets. OSPFv3 interacts with IPv6 before joining or leaving the multicast addresses for packet reception.
Before configuring the interface, you must configure the router ID. The router ID can be an arbitrary, but unique, IPv4 or IPv6 address.
IPv6 expects that the following information will be provided to OSPFv3:
Interface state change notifications
Addition or deletion of IPv6 addresses on an interface
See IPv6 Example Topology Interface and Host Addresses for the topology used for this configuration.
