Administering Printers by Using the PPD File Management Utility (Tasks)

This chapter describes how to use the PPD File Manager, /usr/sbin/ppdmgr, utility to administer PostScript Printer Description (PPD) files that are used with the print subsystem. The ppdmgr utility enables you to customize printers and automates a variety of administrative printing tasks.


Note - The ppdmgr utility can only be used when the LP print service is the active print service. Starting with the Oracle Solaris 11 Express release, CUPS is the default print service. To set up and administer printers by using LP print commands, Oracle Solaris Print Manager, or the Print Manager for LP, you must switch the active print service from CUPS to LP. For more information, see Switching From CUPS to the LP Print Service.
