How to Remove a PCIe EM

An animation of the procedure to remove a PCIe EM is available. See animation showing PCIe EM removal.

Note - The PCIe EMs shown in this topic might be different from those supplied with your server.

Before You Begin

  1. If necessary, prepare the server for service. See How to Prepare for Service.
  2. Access the back of the server.
  3. For hot-plug removal, press the ATTN button on the PCIe EM.

The LED blinks for approximately five seconds and then turns off indicating that the component is ready for removal.

For button location, see Back Panel PCIe EM LEDs.

  4. Disconnect cables from the PCIe EM.
  5. To unlock the PCIe EM, pull out on the underside of the release handle and rotate the handle to the left to its fully open position (1).
