Chapter 45: Working with SKU Location Class for Picks (SLCP)

Purpose: Use this menu option to assign a location class to a SKU to determine which items/SKUs print on pick slips. Only assign location classes to SKUs if you print pick slips based on selected location classes.

In this chapter: SKU Location Class/Picks Screen

Printing pick slips for specific location classes: You can select specific location classes at the Select Location Class for Pick Slip Screen as criteria to use when printing pick slips. Only items or SKUs assigned to the location classes you select print on a pick slip.

Splitting an order by location class: An order may split into several pick slips if an item or SKU has a different location class than other items on the order. If a SKU has a location class defined in the Pick SKU Location Class Override file and the Selected location classes field is set to Y for the pick slip template, the system uses the location class defined at the SKU level to determine if an order should split into several pick slips. If the SKU does not have a location class defined, the system uses the location class defined at the item level to determine if an order should split into several pick slips. See Splitting an Order for more information on the reasons why an order may split into several pick slips and see Which Location Class Should Be Used to Split an Order? for more information on when the system uses the location class defined at the SKU level to determine if an order should split into several pick slips.

Location class edit: If the Allow Location Class Edit in Inventory Transaction (F86) system control value is set to Y, CWDirect validates the item’s location class against the location’s location class during inventory transaction processing. However, CWDirect does not validate the SKU’s location class against the location’s location class during inventory transaction processing. Even if the location class assigned to the SKU matches the location class assigned to the location, you receive an error message: Item is not compatible with location. It is recommended that you set this system control value to N if you wish to assign location classes to SKUs.

SKU Location Class/Picks Screen

Purpose: Use this screen to search for an item/SKU and assign the item/SKU to a location class.

This screen displays all SKUs that exist in the SKU file.

When you assign a SKU to a location class, CWDirect creates a record in the Pick SKU Location Class file.

If you assign a SKU to a location class at this screen and a location class is defined for the item in the Location class field on the Create Item Screen screen, CWDirect does not update the location class defined for the item. Also, when you print pick slips based on selected location classes, CWDirect prints the item if you select the location class defined at the SKU level. If you select the location class defined at the item level, CWDirect does not print the item on a pick slip.

How to display this screen: Enter SLCP at the top of a menu or select SKU Location Class for Picks from a menu.
