Chapter 32: Inputting Remote Orders (IPHO)

Purpose: Use Inputting Remote Orders to load a file of remote orders from tape or through data communications. This menu option populates the Phone Transmit file (PHXMIT).

Input Phone Orders Screen

Data source: The Phone Load Method (C97) system control value determines where

the system looks for the data used to build the Phone Transmit file. If this field is set to:

• EMERY: the system uses the data in the Emery Interface file (PHBMIT)

• TAPE: the system uses the tape drive specified in the Tape Drive system control value

• COMM: the system loads the data interactively

You can work with each of the Phone Load Method (C97) field by selecting the Phone Interface Values (F70) "umbrella" system control value.

After you input remote orders: Once you have populated the Phone Transmit file, you use the Transfer Phone Orders menu option to convert its contents to the Phone Order file (PHORDS). See Chapter 33: Transferring Remote Orders (TPHO).

How to display this screen: Enter IPHO in the Fast path field at the top of any menu screen or select the Input Phone Orders from Tape/Comm/Emery from the menu.

This process clears any existing remote order file on disk, then writes file PHXMIT to disk. If loading the remote orders from tape, be sure to mount a tape on the appropriate tape drive before selecting this option; otherwise, a message similar to the following appears:

Device TAP01 was not ready or next volume was not loaded.

Mount the tape on the designated tape drive, then enter R (Retry) in response to this message.

The system creates the following records for each phone order in the file: Sold To, Ship To, Pay Type, Details (items ordered), Messages, Special Handling, and Catalog Request.

It is important that you follow this step immediately with the Transfer Phone Orders option (TPHO), discussed in Chapter 33: Transferring Remote Orders (TPHO). This process copies the records in the remote phone orders to another file so that the current file is not overwritten when you load a new file of remote orders.

Phone Transmit (PHXMIT) File Layout

Purpose: Below is the file layout for the Phone Transmit file (PHXMIT). If you receive remote orders in this format, you must use the Transfer Phone Orders menu option to convert the data to the Phone Orders file format (PHORDS), discussed in Transferring Remote Orders (TPHO).

The Phone Transmit file contains up to seven different record types; the fields in each type of record, including their attributes and start and end positions, are described in the table below.

Note: Each numeric field in this file is in packed, or compressed, format.
