Chapter 45: Creating Item Warehouse/Locations (MIWL)

Purpose: Use the Create Item Warehouse/Location function to create or change an item’s primary location in the item’s primary warehouse. Item warehouse records identify the items that are stored in the warehouse. Item location records identify the items that are stored in each location.

This menu option provides a quick method of assigning an item to a primary location in its primary warehouse, or changing information about an existing primary location in the item’s primary warehouse.

• The warehouse must be assigned as the Primary warehouse for the item in the item file (MITM), to create or change item location information using this menu option.

• The location where the item is being assigned must be a valid location for the warehouse. The following item location information can be changed: location code, location minimum, location maximum, item cube value and item weight.

This field is also used in Pick Slip Generation to determine the number of units that can fit in a carton. To change the cubic value of the item, type over the existing value. For SKUed items, the SKU file will be updated. For non-SKUed items, the Item file will be updated. See Merchandising Chapter 24: Performing Initial Item Entry (MITM), for information on cubing values; Chapter 43: Creating and Maintaining Locations (WLOC) for information on cubing value and locations; and Fulfillment Chapter 4: Introducing Pick Slip Generation for more information on cubing value and pick slips.

Numeric, 7 positions with a 1-place decimal; optional.

Location

The item's primary warehouse location. This field is blank if a primary warehouse location has not been defined in the Primary loc (Primary location) field in the item or SKU file.

To assign the item to another primary location, type over the existing location code with a valid item location. The item or SKU file will be updated with the new primary location.

Locations are defined in and validated against the Location file. See Chapter 43: Creating and Maintaining Locations (WLOC).

If the primary location information appears in these fields, type over the existing information if the minimum and maximum quantities for the new primary location differ. The existing location information will not be affected. Leave these fields 'as is' if the minimum and maximum amounts for the previous primary location and the new primary location are the same. These fields can be left blank if the minimum and maximum quantities for the item location are unknown.
