You can save changes to a dataset in a dashboard. Different save options are available depending on whether you are saving a dataset that is only available in the dashboard in which it was created (called a local dataset), or a dataset that can be used in multiple dashboards and documents (called a stand-alone dataset). For an overview of datasets, including an explanation of the different types of datasets, see About datasets in Visual Insight. You can:
Save changes to a stand-alone dataset: If you edit a stand-alone dataset while viewing a dashboard, you can save your changes to the dataset. These changes are reflected in any dashboards or documents that contain the dataset. For steps, see To save a stand-alone dataset.
Save changes to a local dataset: To save the changes that you have made to a local dataset in a dashboard, save the dashboard. Changes to any of the local datasets in the dashboard are saved. For steps, see Saving a dashboard.
Save a stand-alone copy of a local dataset: You can make the data in a local dataset available to other dashboards or documents by saving a stand-alone copy of the dataset. Making changes to the stand-alone copy affects all dashboards or documents that use the stand-alone copy as a dataset. For steps, see To save a stand-alone copy of a local dataset.
Derived metrics that you added to the original dataset while editing the dashboard are not saved as part of the stand-alone copy. If you have chosen to hide objects in the dashboard's Datasets panel, these objects are hidden in the original dashboard only; they are visible in any other dashboards of documents that contain the stand-alone copy as a dataset.
Save a local copy of a stand-alone dataset: If you make changes to a stand-alone dataset in a dashboard and want the changes to be available in the dashboard only, without affecting any other dashboards or documents, you can save your changes in a local copy of the stand-alone dataset. For steps, see To save a stand-alone dataset.
You must have the required privileges to save a report.
You have created the dashboard that contains the dataset to save changes to.
To save a stand-alone copy of a local dataset:
Click the name of the dashboard to run it.
In the Datasets panel, hover the cursor over the name of the dataset to save, then click the arrow icon in the top right.
From the menu, select Save Dataset. Navigate to and select the location in which to save the stand-alone copy
Type a name and description for the stand-alone copy in the Name and Description fields.
Click Save. A stand-alone copy of the dataset is saved in the location that you selected.
To save a stand-alone dataset:
Click the name of the dashboard to run it.
In the Datasets panel, hover the cursor over the name of the dataset to edit, then click the arrow icon in the top right
Click Edit Dataset. A confirmation message is displayed. Select one of the following:
To edit the stand-alone dataset, click OK. The Report Editor opens. Select the appropriate options to edit the dataset, then click Save to save your changes. Your changes, when saved, affect all dashboards and documents that contain the dataset.
To edit the stand-alone dataset and save your changes using a local copy of the dataset, select Keep Changes Local. The Report Editor opens. Select the appropriate options to edit the dataset as desired, then click Save to save your changes. The stand-alone dataset is replaced with a local copy, which is added to the dashboard and displayed in the Datasets panel.
