You can configure slot cartridges to fill pages or page sections (such as sidebars) with content dynamically.

A slot is a cartridge that references rules in one or more specified folders; when any of the rules is triggered, the slot cartridge populates the page or page section with which it is associated. You can specify the folders that the slot cartridge references.

To configure a slot cartridge, follow these steps:

  1. Verify that you are working in the correct project.

  2. In the Rules section of the Navigation tree, click the folder that contains the rule with which you want to associate the slot cartridge. The rules in the folder that you click are listed in the Content Details Panel.

  3. Click Edit to the right of the Template field.

The Select Template dialog appears. The selection of templates listed in the dialog depends on the content type allowed in the section where you are adding this rule.

  4. Choose a slot template from the list; for example, ContentSlotMain.

  5. Enter a name for the new slot in the text field to the right of the cartridges icon; for example, "Main Content Slot".

  6. Click Edit (to the right of Content Sources).

The Select Folders and Templates dialog appears.

  7. Select the folders containing the rules that will populate this slot.

  8. Optionally, limit the folders that you can choose from by selecting templates that you want to use for the slot.

  9. Set the Maximum Rules to Apply toggle box to the maximum number of rules to return for the slot.

For example, a Page Slot cartridge should return only a single rule (an application page), while a Record Spotlight sidebar may return multiple featured records.

  10. Click OK.

The folders and templates that you have selected are listed under the Contents and heading.

  11. Click the Notes tab and enter a comment that describes the slot or the update that you made to the slot.

  12. Click Save.
