About In-Place Upgrade

An in-place upgrade maintains your pre-upgrade Oracle home directory, but installs the new release binaries in a new Oracle home directory and upgrades the schemas in-place.

Oracle recommends in-place upgrade if you are upgrading from the Oracle BI Applications 11.1.1.10.3 release to the Oracle BI Applications 11.1.1.10.3 PS4 release (Oracle Fusion Middleware Infrastructure 12c to the latest update of Oracle Fusion Middleware Infrastructure 12c).

Note:

You must perform out-of-place upgrade if you want to upgrade from Oracle BI Applications 11.1.1.10.3 to Oracle BI Applications 11.1.1.10.3 PS4 having target RCU platform on the Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing (ATP) Database.

Note:

  1. If you are upgrading from Oracle BI Applications 11.1.1.10.3PS3 to 11.1.1.10.3PS4, make sure you apply the PB4 (Patch Bundle 4) before you perform the in-place upgrade.
  2. If you are upgrading from Oracle BI Applications 11.1.1.10.3/11.1.1.10.3PS2 to 11.1.1.10.3PS4, make sure that you apply the PB2 (Patch Bundle 2) before you perform the in-place upgrade.
