Deploy a Semantic Model to a Resource Group from the Deployments Page

Deployment moves the semantic model from the design-time environment to the runtime environment and provides subject areas for your users This topic describes how to access a list of your resource groups and select which resource group to deploy a semantic model to.

Resource groups allow you to deploy more than one semantic model. Each resource group supports one deployed semantic model, and your administrator can configure up to three resource groups.

If the Deployments page isn't displayed, it's because your administrator hasn't configured resource groups. You can instead open a semantic model and deploy it from the semantic model editor. See About Deploying Semantic Models and Deploy a Semantic Model Without Resource Groups.

Before you deploy a semantic model:

  • Confirm that you have the BI Data Model Author application role. The BI Data Model Author application role gives you access to Semantic Modeler and the ability to create, edit, and deploy semantic models.

When you have the BI Data Model Author application role, the Deploy and Undeploy option are displayed for each resource group in the Deployments page. If the Deploy and Undeploy options aren't displayed, then you don't have the required application role. Ask your administrator to grant you the BI Data Model Author application role.

  • Run Check Consistency and Advanced Check and resolve any errors. Any semantic model file that you choose from your Oracle Analytics environment or that you or another user exported from a different environment to .rpd must have passed consistency check and be error-free. You can't successfully deploy a semantic model that contains errors. See Check the Consistency of a Semantic Model and Run the Advanced Consistency Check Before Deploying a Semantic Model.

If your semantic model deployment to a resource group fails, then Oracle Analytics creates log files that you can use to understand why the deployment failed. To view the log files, click the resource group's Actions icon, select View History, and click Logs.
  1. On your home page, click Navigator Navigator icon and then click Semantic Models.
  2. Click the Deployments page and click a resource group to select it.
  3. Click Deploy Deploy.
  4. In Deployment to <resource group>, select a deployment source.
  5. If you selected File, click Browse to locate and select the .rpd file for the semantic model to deploy. In Password, specify the .rpd file's password that the user assigned when exporting the semantic model to .rpd.
  6. If you selected Model, click Semantic Model and select a semantic model from the dropdown menu.
  7. Click Deploy.
