Deploy a Semantic Model to a Resource Group from the Semantic Model Editor

Deployment moves the semantic model from the design-time environment to the runtime environment and provides subject areas for your users. This topic describes how to open and deploy the semantic model when your instance uses resource groups.

Resource groups allow you to deploy more than one semantic model in your instance. Each resource group supports one deployed semantic model, and your administrator can configure up to three resource groups for your instance.

If the Deploy Semantic Model dialog is different than what this topic describes, it's because your administrator hasn't configured resource groups for your instance. The deployment process, steps, and available options differ depending upon whether your administrator configured resource groups for your instance. Before you deploy a semantic model:

  • Confirm that you have the BI Data Model Author application role. The BI Data Model Author application role gives you access to Semantic Modeler and the ability to create, edit, and deploy semantic models.

    When you have the BI Data Model Author application role, the Deploy option is displayed in the toolbar's Page menu. If the Deploy option isn't displayed, then you don't have the required application role. Ask your administrator to grant you the BI Data Model Author application role.

  • Run Check Consistency and Advanced Check and resolve any errors. You can't successfully deploy a semantic model that contains errors. See Check the Consistency of a Semantic Model and Run the Advanced Consistency Check Before Deploying a Semantic Model.

After you begin deploying a semantic model, the deployment's status is displayed at the bottom of the Semantic Modeler editor. You can click the drop-down button and click Cancel to cancel the deployment.
If your semantic model deployment fails, Oracle Analytics creates log files that you can use to understand why the deployment failed. See View a Semantic Model's Logs.
  1. On your home page, click Navigator Navigator icon and then click Semantic Models.
  2. In the Semantic Models page, click a semantic model to open it.
  3. In the toolbar, click Page Menu Page menu and then click Deploy.
  4. In Deploy Semantic Model, go to Resource Group and choose the resource group to deploy the semantic model to. Click Deploy.
