Copying Rules to a Rule Set

This feature is useful if you need to include identical or similar rules in several rule sets. You can copy the rule with a slightly different name and leave it unchanged or modify it. You can select multiple rules to copy to a rule set.

Note:

If a rule uses a Rule Set Context and the rule has dimension members that conflict with members in the target rule set, the rule is not copied, and an error is displayed in the Job Details log.

To copy rules to a rule set:

  1. From the Home page, select Modeling, and then Designer.

  2. Select the Mass Edit tab.

  3. Make selections for Model, Rule Set, and Rule Type.

  4. Optional: Further refine the rules displayed by searching for and filtering rules. See Filtering Which Rules Are Displayed.

  5. Select the desired rules, or select the checkbox by Name to select all the rules displayed on the Mass Edit tab after any filters have been applied.

  6. Select Actions, and then Copy Rules to Rule Set.

  7. In the Copy Rules to Rule Set dialog box, enter the following information:
    • Rule Set: Select the rule set to which you want to copy the rules.

    • Job Comment: Enter a note or comment about the job that will be displayed in the Job Details accessed from the Jobs console.

    Note:

    To keep rule names unique in the model, a number is added to the end of rule names as they are copied.

  8. Click OK in the Information window that is displayed letting you know that the job to copy rules to a rule set has been submitted successfuly.

  9. Optional: Go to the Jobs console and verify that the rules were successfully copied.

    The job is displayed in the Jobs console with a "Completed" or "Completed with Errors" status. You can select the job to see details about the job and troubleshoot any errors that may have occurred. See Viewing Rules Jobs.
