Button Types
Buttons are useful for limiting the set of possible answers a user may provide. The choices represented are mutually exclusive, that is, the user can only choose one from the set of options.
Buttons enable touch friendly selections and are therefore particularly suitable for interviews on mobile browsers.
For Boolean attributes, the answer options are, by default, Yes and No, as well as Uncertain if the input is optional. Note that:
- For August 2016 version interviews, the text of these answer options can be changed using the project's formatting settings. For more information, see Change the Text Strings for Boolean Attribute Values.
- For Latest Version Interviews, if the attribute uses a Boolean value list, the Display text for the value list options will be used for the radio button options. Otherwise, the Boolean values specified in the project's formatting settings will be used.
For non-Boolean attributes, you need to specify the answers for the user to choose from. Note that an uncertain option will only be shown:
- For values defined on the Interview tab, if uncertain is added as one of the values.
- For values defined in a value list, if the control is optional.
All buttons, with the exception of sliders, can be configured to display horizontally (default) or vertically.
Note that horizontal orientation is only supported for Boolean attributes in August 2016 version interviews.
