Updating SMS preferences when a form is submitted

When designing forms, you can add SMS form processing steps to opt in or opt out valid phone numbers and subscribe contacts to or remove contacts from your global SMS subscription list.

To learn more about SMS preference management, see Preference management for SMS.

To update SMS phone number opt-in/out:

  1. Open a form or create a new one.
  2. Click Processing.
  3. Click The Add icon in the left pane.
  4. Within the list that appears, double click on The SMS phone number opt in or opt out icon. SMS - Phone Number Opt-In/ Out.
  5. In the General Settings area on the right pane, select the contact field where a valid phone number will be entered under Choose the field containing the Phone Number .
  6. In the Opt-In/ Opt-Out Field section, you can choose either a Form Field or a Constant Value to use as the opt-in/opt-out field; but ideally, you want to always choose the Form Field option, since choosing Constant Value will have the opt-in or opt-out option predetermined for contacts.
    • If you select Form Field, then in the drop-down list next to the Opt-In/ Opt-Out Field section, choose the form field that will contain the contact's choice to either opt-in or out.
    • If you select Constant Value, select either True or False in the adjacent drop-down list.
  7. Under Action on True Value, choose the action to be processed if a true statement is returned in the opt-in/ opt-out field selected in step 6. For example, if Single Checkbox was selected as the form field in step 6, then a true statement would equate to selecting the checkbox.
    • Opt In Phone Number - If the phone number entered in the contact field is valid, then this action will opt in the phone number.

    • Opt Out Phone Number - If phone number entered in the phone field is valid, then this action will opt out the phone number.

    • No Action - Nothing is done.

  8. Under Action on False Value, choose the action you want to be processed if a false statement is given in the opt-in/ opt-out field selected in step 6. For example, if Single Checkbox was selected as the form field in step 6, then a false statement would equate to leaving the checkbox blank.
    • The same action steps under Action on True Value are found under Action on False Value.
  9. Specify when to process this step.
  10. Click Save.
