Selecting elements on a page to edit or track actions

You can select objects on your page to make edits or attach click actions. This can be useful when the object you wish to select is difficult to find visually on your page because it is either very small, placed behind another object, or hidden within a drop-down.

In addition to clicking them, there are two ways to select elements:

  • Outline view
  • Breadcrumbs

Outline view

Choosing an object listed in the outline tree selects that object on the page visually. When you click on an area of your website, that object is selected in the outline tree. It works both ways.

To use this tool:

  1. Click the Campaign Outline tab Image of the Campaign Outline tab icon.
  2. Expand or collapse elements.
  3. Select an element from the list.
  4. Now you can go into the Editing or Actions tab to either edit or attach actions respectively.

In this example, we are using outline view to edit content hidden within a CSS drop-down.

Breadcrumbs

Once an object on the page is selected, you can use the breadcrumbs feature to select different related objects, either by choosing a parent element, a child element, or one of its siblings.

To use the breadcrumbs feature:

  1. Select an object on the page.
  2. Click a breadcrumb to the left of your selection to choose a parent object.
  3. Click an arrow to the right of an object to see what's located directly inside that object.
  4. Click the ellipsis menu to the left to see objects further up the page.
  5. Now you can go into the Editing or Actions tab to either edit or attach actions respectively.

In this example, we are using the breadcrumbs to attach a click action to the link in which this text is a part of.
