Previewing message variants
You can preview message variants to ensure that the variant conditions resolve correctly and display the content you expect to see.
To preview message variants:
-
Click Actions > Preview to preview your message.
-
Use the back <- and forward -> buttons to move through your contacts and observe which variants are displayed for each contact.
Tips:Ensure you test with a sample of contacts from your database that include combinations of the attributes used in your variants.
If your record gets skipped with a “*** Skipped Record: Expression resulted in an empty value.” message, it could mean that a contact was skipped. Skipping means that the contact is ignored during the personalization process and the contact will not be sent the email. To avoid skipping contacts, and continue to deliver message, you can set a default value for the attribute in the message. Now that you set a default value, the contact will no longer be skipped.
Contacts are often skipped when they meet none of the variant conditions, and the contact's attribute values are null or empty. Remember that a contact will receive the content from the first variant for which they meet the conditions. Ensure that you organize your variants in the order you want them evaluated.
If you receive the error “Message preview failed because of template execution runtime error, detailed error: Variable <attribute> not found,” you must add the attribute to your data sources.
