Managing your Oracle Unity Customer Data Platform integration

Important: This feature is only available if you have Unity and have performed the prerequisite integration tasks. See Oracle Responsys integration in the Oracle Unity Help Center for details.

Oracle Unity enables you to bring in various types of customer data into one customer data platform (CDP). You can use Unity's segmentation tools to create audience segments based on that data. For more information about the capabilities of Unity, see the Unity Help Center.

When you integrate Unity and Responsys, you can do the following:

  • Bring  Unity audience segments into Responsys as audiences. If a profile in a Unity audience segment isn't in the Responsys profile list, the system adds it automatically. You can use these imported audiences for targeting in campaigns and programs, as described in Using audiences imported from Oracle Unity Customer Data Platform.
  • Send profile data and campaign behavioral data from Responsys to Unity. To do this, you'll need to create Connect jobs to export profile data and export Contact Event Data.

Set up the integration from Responsys to  Unity

The Responsys Account Administrator must perform the steps for setting up the Responsys-side part of the Unity integration. They must also work with Unity users to help them complete the Unity parts.

First, request the required controlled availability features:

Make sure your Responsys account has the required controlled availability features enabled, as described in Oracle Responsys integration in the Oracle Unity Help Center .

Tips for creating the SR: In the Problem Summary and Problem Description fields, enter "Enable Responsys controlled features required for Unity integration." In the Where is the Problem? section, click the Cloud tab, and then choose Service Type: Oracle Responsys Marketing Platform Cloud Service and Problem Type: Manage my Interact Account.

Next, create a  Unity-specific user in Responsys:

  1. Log in to Oracle Responsys using your Account Administrator login credentials.
  2. From the Oracle Responsys home page, click the navigation menu (Navigation menu icon), and then click Account.
  3. Select User identity management, and then select Add user.
  4. Complete the following fields:
    • Login name: Enter the name for the Unity integration user. It must be a unique name in the Responsys pod on which your account is located. For example, you could use CXUnity<your_account_name>, where <your_account_name> is your unique account name. This would identify the user as being specific to the Unity integration, and your unique account name would ensure that the username is unique across the Responsys pod.
    • Email address: User's email address. This email address should belong to your point of contact for Unity. Responsys will send the new user "welcome" email to this address. The email recipient sets the password, and performs password management tasks for this Responsys user.
    • User display name: Enter a meaningful user name here. It can be the same as the login name.
    • User status: Leave this set to Active.
    • User locale: Leave this set to English. The user you are creating will not use the Responsys user interface.
    • Leave Can create Programs / Campaigns without Org. Scope for targeting unselected.
  5. On the Role Assignment tab, select only the Web Services API Roles. These roles have "Web Services Manager" as part of the name.
  6. Click the Organization Assignment tab (if present), and then select Root. Objects created through the API inherit the organizational membership of the API user.
  7. Return to the top of the page, and then click the Create button.

After you create the user, Responsys sends a new user “welcome” email to the email address you entered when creating the user. The email address should belong to your point of contact for the Unity integration. This email provides instructions for logging in to Responsys and for changing the password.

  8. Follow the instructions in the email to change the temporary password for the Unity integration user. Make note of this password: you will need it when you set up the integration in Unity.
  9. Verify that the Unity integration user's authentication options show User Authentication as allowing password. If the user is set up for only certificate authentication, a connection will not be possible.
    1. From the Oracle Responsys home page, click the navigation menu (Navigation menu icon), and then click Account.
    2. Select User identity management, and then select User authentication management.
    3. Select the Unity API user from the list, and then click Edit.
    4. Verify that the User Authentication option is set to either password only or password or certificate.

Notes:

  • Before using the Unity integration user, the person who received the email must log in and change the temporary password.
  • The Unity integration user, if configured purely as such, will not have access to the Responsys user interface. Attempting to log in by using the Responsys user login results in the following error message: ui.authentication.login.browserLoginNotAllowed

Note: The person resetting the password for the Unity integration user may receive the ui.authentication.login.browserLoginNotAllowed error. If this occurs, the workaround is for a Responsys Account Administrator to reset the Unity integration user's password. This triggers an email to the user that will enable the user to reset the password without logging in to Responsys. Whenever you change the Unity integration user's password in Responsys, you must also change it in the Responsys destinations you created in Unity.

Finally, work with  Unity users to complete the remaining integration steps:

The remaining integration steps happen in  Unity. These steps are described in Oracle Responsys integration in the Oracle Unity Help Center .

After all of the steps are completed in Unity and the job that exports segments to Responsys is running, you should start to see audiences from Unity in Responsys. Segments from Unity show up as an audience in Responsys, and profiles that aren't in the Responsys profile list yet are automatically inserted. To learn more about how to use the audiences, see Using audiences imported from Oracle Unity Customer Data Platform.
