Allocate inventory to sales orders

Allocate inventory and incoming supply from a sales order in Menu > Sales > Sales orders. QuickStart allocates eligible supply when you submit the order, and the allocation option determines whether a line can be partially allocated and whether future supply can be used.

Before you begin

You need an active inventory item with quantity on hand at the fulfillment location. You can create a customer and item from the sales order if they do not already exist.

Review inventory allocation on a sales order

  1. Open Menu > Sales > Sales orders.
  2. Create a sales order or open an existing sales order that is not closed.
  3. Select the Customer.
  4. Add an inventory item, enter the ordered Quantity, and select the fulfillment location when it becomes available for the line or order.
  5. In Allocate inventory, choose how inventory should be allocated:
    • Allocate Available Inventory allocates the quantity currently available and allows a partial allocation.
    • Allocate Complete Inventory allocates current inventory only when the full open quantity is available.
    • Allocate Available Supplies allocates available inventory and future supply and allows a partial allocation. This is the default on a new line.
    • Allocate Complete Supplies allocates inventory and future supply only when the full open quantity can be allocated.
    • Do not allocate leaves the line unallocated.
  6. Submit the sales order.
  7. Open or edit the submitted order and review Inventory allocated and the backordered quantity for each line.

Only the quantity allocated from inventory is available for fulfillment. If the allocated quantity is less than the open ordered quantity, the remainder is backordered. The open backordered quantity is the ordered quantity minus canceled, fulfilled, and allocated quantities.
