Supply allocation
Supply allocation matches demand from sales order lines with current inventory or eligible future supply. It controls how much of a sales order can be fulfilled and can update the expected ship date when future supply is allocated.
On a submitted sales order, review these line values together:
- Allocate inventory specifies whether the line uses available inventory, waits for the complete quantity, or uses an available future-supply option.
- Inventory allocated shows the quantity assigned from current inventory.
- The allocation status shows whether the line is allocated, partially allocated, or not allocated.
- Expected ship date reflects the latest relevant date for the allocated supply.
Allocation is recalculated when inventory or supply changes. Item receipts and positive inventory adjustments can make more inventory available. Item fulfillments and negative adjustments consume it. Inventory transfers change the location where the supply is available.
If an order remains underallocated, verify the item, fulfillment location, open order quantity, quantity on hand, and allocation option. Use the Inventory backorders and Items pending fulfillment reports to find affected orders.
