Add usage to a subscription
Use usage-based subscriptions when the customer should be billed based on a measured value, such as units consumed, sessions, seats used, or service quantity. Open the subscription.
Usage-based subscriptions have an Add usage action and a Usage tab.
Before you begin
The subscription must be active and contain a usage line. The effective date must be between the usage line start date and the current date, must not be after the subscription end date, and must be in an open accounting period. The usage value must be greater than zero.
Add a usage entry
-
Open the subscription.
-
Select Add usage.
-
Select the subscription line.
-
Enter the usage value.
-
Select the effective date.
-
Select Create.
What happens next
The Usage tab lists the new entry with its effective date, billing period, value, and Active status. The subscription line quantity and total amount increase, Usage and This period update in the summary, and the Future payments tab shows the amount to bill on the next bill date.
If the effective date belongs to a period that was already billed, QuickStart creates a separate charge that is ready for billing. A scheduled process later creates an invoice for that late usage, so the invoice might not appear immediately after you add the entry.
An active usage entry has a Void action. Voiding an entry removes its value from the usage line and recalculates the current-period amount. After usage is included in billing, its status changes to Billed and the Void action is no longer available. Billed usage cannot be voided.
