Edit a subscription

Edit a subscription when the customer agreement changes after creation and its status permits the required update. You can change supported schedule and line values, add or remove items, and then review recalculated summary and future-payment amounts; an in-advance increase can create a delayed delta invoice without changing an existing invoice.

The fields you can change depend on the subscription status.

Area Editable Not editable
Header and schedule Terms, end date, duration type, and subscription ID when available. Customer, billing frequency, billing mode, and start date on an active subscription.
Items Rate on an existing line, and quantity when the field is available. You can also add another line or delete a line. Item and line type on an existing active subscription line. Quantity is read-only on a usage line.

Edit the subscription

  1. Open the subscription.

  2. Select Edit.

  3. Review the subscription header and schedule.

Update terms, end date, duration type, or other editable fields as needed.

  4. In the Items section, select Edit on a subscription line to change the available values.

The item and line type on an existing active subscription line are read-only. On a usage line, you can change the rate, but not the quantity.

  5. Select Apply to apply the line change.

  6. To add another subscription line, select Add item.

Select an existing item or create an item from the item field. Select the line type that matches the billing behavior.

  7. To delete a subscription line, select More actions > Delete on the line.

  8. Review the subscription summary.

QuickStart recalculates the recurring amount, usage amount, current period amount, and booking value before you save.

  9. Select Update.

Billing impact

After you update a subscription, review the Invoices and Future payments tabs.

Important limitation

For usage-based subscriptions, enter usage with Add usage. Do not edit line quantity to record usage. Usage entries update the usage amount and the amount to bill for the usage period.
