Task List Screen

The Task List screen is the “home” screen of Field Service Mobile.

From this screen the user can:

The Task List screen displays all of the tasks assigned to the user for a designated range of dates.

By default, the date range is from 5 days before the current date to 5 days after.

Depending on the resolution of the mobile device used the Field Service Mobile app may show a map to the right of the list of tasks.

Note:

A user can have more than one task set to in progress. In this document where a reference is made to the “selected task” this refers to the task that was selected for viewing in the Task list on the Task List screen.

Task List screen in detail

The Task List screen is the “home” screen of Field Service Mobile. From this screen the user can, see assigned tasks, view a map showing the location of all assigned tasks, select one task to see more detail, refresh the task data from the cloud, add new tasks and logout of the system.

Show Map View button

To allow the user to show or enlarge (depending on the mobile device’s screen resolution) the map showing the user’s current location and the locations of all tasks in the Task list.

On low or medium resolution mobile devices: Hides the Task list so that the Map panel now shows. On high resolution mobile devices: Hides the Task list so that the Map panel now takes up the entire width of the screen.

Offline indicator

To inform the user that the Field Service Mobile app is not able to connect to the internet to communicate with the cloud.

Log Out button

To allow the user to log out of the Field Service Mobile app.

Logs the user out of the app and then displays the Login screen.

Refresh Data button

To allow the user to force the app to reload the task data from the cloud.

Clears the Task list of all Task List entry instances.

Then reloads the most up to date task date from the cloud and populates the Task list with Task List entry occurrences based on the data just downloaded.

When the Offline indicator is not showing.

Add New Task button

To allow the user to add a new task that is not related to any of the other tasks in the Task list.

Displays the Add New Task screen.

Task list

Allows the user to see basic information for each task assigned to them within the configured date range.

Task list entry

Allows the user to see basic information for a particular task shown in the Task list.

Each Task List entry is divided left-to-right into two sections: The first is the Task List Entry button and the next is the Task List Entry Map Launch button.

There are 5 display styles for Task List entry. See Task List entry display styles explained below for explanation.

Task list entry button

To allow the user to see more details for a particular task in the Task list.

Also, to function as a button where, when the user presses on it, the Selected Task Details screen is displayed.

Displays the Selected Task Details screen showing detailed data for the selected task.

When there are one or more Task List entry occurrences shown in the Task list.

Task list entry map launch button

To allow the user to use the default GPS mapping app on their mobile device so that they can use the advanced mapping capabilities, including live traffic information, of that app.

Launches the mobile device’s default GPS mapping app to show the route from the user’s current location and the location for the selected task.

When there are one or more Task List entry occurrences shown in the Task list.

Map panel

To allow the user to see their current location and the location of each of their assigned tasks.

Pressing on any of the Task Location buttons will display the Selected Task Details screen in Map View so that the user may see more detail about the selected task.

If the user presses on one of the Task Location buttons, then the Selected Task Details screen will be displayed in Map View.

Displays the alert below if the user attempts the pan the map with only one finger.

Task List entry display styles explained

The Task entry occurrences in the Task list have 5 visual styles that inform the user of the status of the particular task. These are explained below.

The Data Loading Status describes whether the app has finished loading the data for this particular task from the cloud. The possible values are Loading and Loaded.

The Task Status reflects the progress of a task from start to end. The possible values are Not Started, In Progress and Completed.

Task List map view explained

This map panel shows the user symbols signifying their location as well as the location of each of the assigned tasks.

Similar to many GPS mapping apps the user can zoom in, zoom out and pan around the map so that the can see the location and level of detail required.

Technician Symbol

NextService Mobile map view technician symbol.

The location of the technician is signified by an instance of the Technician Symbol.

If the technician’s information in Field Service includes a photo of them this will be shown as part of the symbol.

Task Location Symbol

Each task location is signified by an instance of the Task Location icon.

Pressing on any one of these icons will display the Selected Task Detail screen in Map View allowing the user to see more detail for the selected task.

Zoom In

NextService Mobile map view zoom in symbol.

To zoom in on the map the user should splay two fingers apart on the screen of the mobile device in the location that they want to zoom in to. Double pressing quickly in one location on the map will also zoom in.

Zoom Out

To zoom out of the map the user should use pinch two fingers together on the screen of the mobile device anywhere on the map.

Pan North/South/East/West

NextService Mobile map view pan symbol.

To pan around the map the user should place two fingers on the mobile device screen anywhere on the map and slide up, down, left or right.
