Files Tab

The Files tab allows the user to attach files from their mobile device to the selected task.

This tab contains three screens. One is known as the Add File Item screen, the next as the Edit/Delete File Item screen and the last as the File Item List screen.

Add File Item screen in detail

This screen allows the user to add file items to be attached to the selected task.

Back button

To allow the user to navigate to the File Item List screen.

If there are already one or more saved files for this task, then the File Item List screen is displayed.

If there are no saved notes for this task, then this button has no effect.

Toggle Selected Task Details Screen Visibility button

To allow the user access to functions on the Selected Task Details screen.

Shows the Selected Task Details screen.

Saving To Cloud indicator

To inform the user that the file item is being saved to the cloud.

After the Save button has been pressed until the data has been saved to the cloud.

Discard Changes button

To allow the user to clear any changes that have been made within the Add/Edit File screen.

Shows the alert below.

If the user presses OK on the alert, then Field Service Mobile reverts the contents of all data entry fields back to the previous default values.

If the user presses Cancel on alert, then the alert is hidden, and no changes are made.

Once changes are made to any of the data entry items within the screen.

Shows the alert “Are you sure you want to discard your changes? OK. Cancel”.

Save button

To allow the user to save any changes that have been made within the Add File Item screen.

Saves all the data entered within the Add File Item screen then displays the Edit/View File Item screen with all of the fields filled with that data for the newly added file item.

Once both the File autoload text field and the Description text box contain valid values.

Upload Autoload text field

To allow the user to select a file to be uploaded to the cloud and be attached to the selected task.

It functions as a button so that, when the user presses anywhere within the field, Field Service Mobile opens the mobile device’s default file selection tool.

Once a file has been selected the field displays the filename of the selected file.

Clear Upload Autoload text field button

To allow the user to clear the contents of the Upload autoload text field.

Clears the contents of the Upload autoload text field.

To allow the user to enter a description for the current file.

This screen allows the user to edit or delete files that are currently attached to the selected task.

Delete File Item button

To allow the user to delete a file item. This includes the attached file itself and associated data such as description, that has already been saved to the cloud.

Deletes the current file and associated data from the cloud.

If the file being deleted is the only file saved for the selected task, then the Add File Item screen is displayed. Otherwise the File Item List screen is shown.

When viewing a file record that has been saved.

Saving To Cloud indicator

To inform the user that the file item is being saved to the cloud.

To allow the user to clear any changes that have been made within the Edit/Delete File Item screen.

Shows the alert below.

If no data has been saved to the cloud for the current file item, then all data entry items will be set to default values.

If data has been saved previously for the current file item, then all values revert to their previous values when the file item was last saved.

If the user presses Cancel on alert, then the alert is hidden, and no changes are made.

Save button

To allow the user to save any changes that have been made within the Edit/Delete File Item screen.

Saves all the data entered within the Edit/Delete File Item screen for the selected task.

Once changes are made to the File Description text box.

Download button

Allows the user to download/view a file that has been previously saved to the cloud.

The file will be launched into a new browser tab.

Depending on the operating system of the mobile device being used the file, and depending on the file type, this file will either display in the new tab or be saved into the device’s permanent storage so that another app may be able to display the file.

File Size text display field

To show the user the file size, measured in kilobytes, of the stored file.

File Description text box

To show the user the description that has been previously saved for the current file record.

However, if the user edits the contents of this text box, the new contents may be saved to the cloud by pressing the Save button.
