Transaction Matching Assistant

Important:

This feature uses OpenAI GPT 4.x and is available only to eligible customers with access to supported AI features. AI features can produce inaccurate or incomplete results. Always review recommended matches and consider additional business context before you confirm reconciliation.

The Transaction Matching Assistant uses AI to help you resolve ambiguous matches during bank reconciliation. When multiple possible matches remain for a bank transaction, the assistant evaluates transaction details and identifies the most likely match. This reduces manual review during the reconciliation workflow.

This feature serves as an additional layer of evaluation when ambiguity remains after other matching methods run. System and custom rules perform the initial transaction matching. NetSuite can also apply additional evaluation methods, including enrichment-based matching (if available) and the Transaction Matching Assistant.

Note:

The Transaction Matching Assistant evaluates only the current transaction and candidate matches. It does not learn from past decisions or improve over time.

You need the same permissions required to access the Match Bank Data page. For more information, see Permissions for Banking Features.

You can enable this feature on the Accounting subtab of the Enable Features page (Setup > Company > Enable Features). Default feature settings depend on account eligibility and creation date.

Note:

For eligible accounts created after May 14, 2026, the Transaction Matching Assistant is enabled by default. For eligible accounts created before May 14, 2026, the feature is disabled by default. Eligible accounts must be in supported regions.

How the Transaction Matching Assistant Fits into the Matching Process

During bank reconciliation, NetSuite applies multiple matching methods to identify matching transactions:

  • System and custom matching rules run to match transactions.

  • If Enriched Bank Data is enabled, NetSuite can use enriched transaction details from bank transactions to help find a match. This applies only when multiple candidate matches exist and certain conditions are met. For more information, see Enriched Bank Data for Transaction Matching.

  • The Transaction Matching Assistant can evaluate transaction details and identify the most likely match when multiple possible matches remain. The feature evaluates transaction details such as payee or payor name, memo content, and transaction date proximity.

The Transaction Matching Assistant considers only one-to-one matches.

What You'll See

When the Transaction Matching Assistant identifies a potential match:

  • The match appears on the Review subtab, where you can verify and submit it.

  • Matches continue to be visually identified with a multicolored vertical line, consistent with existing behavior.

  • The match details include a message that indicates how AI was used to assist in identifying the match.

Matches are not submitted automatically. You must review them before submission.

If you undo a match, the bank and GL transaction return to the To Be Matched subtab for manual matching.

When Recommendations Appear

A match recommendation can only appear in the following scenarios:

  • Matching GL transactions exist in NetSuite for the imported bank transaction.

  • Multiple candidate matches still remain after system rules, custom rules, and enrichment-based matching (if available) are applied.

If no corresponding GL transactions exist, or if a single match is already determined, NetSuite does not generate a match recommendation.
