Using the Exception Management Preferences
Exception Management (EM) is currently a limited release feature that's not available to all customers. Eligibility depends on data volume and model training readiness; accounts with a large amount or insufficient historical data may be restricted. If you can't access Exception Management, contact your NetSuite Account Manager for guidance and next steps.
As an administrator, you can set company-wide criteria to filter out exceptions before they appear on the Exception Management dashboard. To set these preferences, go to Setup > Accounting > Accounting Preferences, then click the Exception Management subtab.
These preferences affect visibility only and don't change underlying transactions.
For each exception type (Incorrect Amount, Incorrect Account, Missing Transactions), you can:
-
Exclude the exception type entirely, by clearing the box next to it.
-
Select specific transaction types to exclude from the exception type.
-
Set a minimum dollar threshold. Exceptions below this amount aren't shown on the EM list page (useful for low-value items that aren't worth investigating).
Additionally, under general preference, you can limit exceptions only to open accounting periods. When this preference is set, new exceptions will only be created for the open accounting period, and all unresolved exceptions from a closed period will be closed with a resolution type "Accounting Period Closed". This option is enabled by default.
