AI Units FAQ

What are AI Units?

AI Units are the elements of consumption for NetSuite AI features. AI Units are measured and calculated by Oracle based on Customer's use of such features which may vary by AI feature, model, or provider. Customer's AI Units usage is available within the NetSuite Service.

Why does NetSuite use AI units?

AI Units provide a simple way to measure AI usage across different AI-powered features. Instead of asking customers to track technical measures such as tokens, NetSuite converts AI usage into Units that can be monitored through your account.

How are AI units calculated?

AI Unit usage is calculated based on the actual AI processing required after an AI task runs.

How do I get AI units?

AI Units are included with eligible NetSuite licenses below:

  • NetSuite General Access Cloud Service User Item #6023

1,000 AI Units per month of term, provisioned upfront into customer AI Unit Pool.

  • NetSuite Social Impact Cloud Service User Item #3112

1,000 AI Units per month of term, provisioned upfront into customer AI Unit Pool.

  • NetSuite Social Impact Donation for SuiteSuccess 3-User Bundle Item #6360

3,000 AI Units per month of term, provisioned upfront into customer AI Unit Pool.

  • NetSuite Sandbox Environment Cloud Service Item #'s: 6500; #6500 (use for renewals only)

Each sandbox includes a separate pool equal to the number of AI Units licensed in the connected customer Production account.

  • NetSuite Development Environment Cloud Service Item #'s: 6501, #6552 (use for renewals only)

Each development environment includes separate pool with 10,000 AI Units per month of term, provisioned upfront.

Example: A NetSuite customer who signs a 36-month term and purchases 10 General Access Cloud Service Users receives 360,000 AI Units for use throughout their term.

Additional AI Units are available for purchase:

  • NetSuite AI Units (10,000 Pooled AI Units) Item #7127

  • NetSuite AI Units (25,000 Pooled AI Units) Item #7143

Do AI Units carry over?

No. AI Units are part of a term allowance, meaning they expire when your NetSuite term expires.

Your usage starts at zero and counts up as AI-powered features are used. Unused AI Units expire when your NetSuite term expires.

Additional AI Units are available for purchase through NetSuite AI Units (10k Pooled AI Units) item add-on.

What happens if I use all my AI Units?

NetSuite uses a limit model designed to help customers manage usage in several ways:

  • As customer nears their licensed amount, they'll receive email alerts.

  • Customers can also monitor their AI usage.

  • When Customer runs out of AI Units, they are expected to purchase more or pause any further usage of AI features.

Where can I see my AI Units usage?

AI Units usage will be visible on the Billing Information page. Go to Setup > Company > View Billing Information.

Administrators will be able to review account-level AI Units usage, including how many Units have been consumed during the current month.

Will I receive usage alerts?

Yes. NetSuite plans to provide usage alerts to help administrators monitor AI Unit consumption.

Alerts are expected to notify administrators when usage reaches key thresholds, such as when the account is approaching or has exceeded its AI Units allowance.

How much does a specific AI action cost?

The number of AI Units used depends on the amount of AI processing required for that action.

In general, AI Unit usage = amount of AI processing required for the task

Shorter or simpler requests typically use fewer Units. Longer requests, larger documents, more complex workflows, or multi-step AI actions typically use more Units.

Will NetSuite provide examples of typical AI Units usage?

Yes. Typical costs for benchmarking can be found in the topic NetSuite AI Units and NetSuite Features.

These examples will help you understand the typical AI Units usage for common tasks. Usage may vary depending on the size, complexity, and content of each request.

Can I use my own AI model or provider?

No. NetSuite AI-powered features use NetSuite-supported AI infrastructure. Customers cannot bring their own AI model or third-party AI provider for these features.

Note that the NetSuite AI Connector (MCP) still supports the use of third-party AI providers. The NetSuite AI Connector will not consume AI Units.

Who can monitor AI Units' usage?

AI Units usage is intended to be monitored by account administrators through the admin experience. Administrators will have visibility into account-level usage so they can manage consumption across users.

Do existing AI features in NetSuite use AI Units?

Yes. The AI features that use AI Units can be found in the topic NetSuite AI Units and NetSuite Features.

How can I manage AI Units' usage?

Administrators can manage AI Units' usage by monitoring usage on the Billing Information page, reviewing alerts, and educating users on which AI-powered workflows consume AI Units. See NetSuite AI Units and NetSuite Features.

For higher-volume usage, customers can purchase additional AI Units through an add-on package.

How do AI Units work with sandboxes, development accounts and preview accounts?

AI Units are calculated separately across sandboxes, development accounts, and preview accounts. They are tracked separately and reset at the beginning of each NetSuite licensing term.

For more information on Sandbox and Development Environments, please refer to the NetSuite GBU Cloud Services - Service Descriptions found at https://www.oracle.com/corporate/contracts/cloud-services/netsuite/descriptions.html

Do SuiteApps use AI Units?

Yes. If a SuiteApp uses generative AI capabilities in NetSuite then it uses AI Units. This includes features such as the SuiteScript Generative AI APIs, Text Enhance, Prompt Studio, and Ask Oracle.

Do NetSuite add-on modules with AI capabilities use AI Units?

No. Add-on NetSuite modules with AI capabilities, such as NetSuite Bill Capture, NetSuite EPM products and NetSuite Analytics Warehouse, do not consume AI Units.
