SCIS 2.0 Frequently Asked Questions

When considering the move from SuiteCommerce InStore (SCIS) 1.0 to SCIS 2.0, you might have a few questions. This FAQ list provides answers to the questions we often hear from our customers about the change.

Introducing SCIS 2.0

What is SCIS 2.0 and why was it built?

SCIS 2.0 applies refactored payment processing to the SCIS transaction architecture. This version brings significant improvements to performance and reliability.

How do SCIS 2.0 processes differ from SICS 1.0?

See SCIS 2.0 Reliability, Performance, and Refactored Processing and see SCIS 2.0 Payment Processing Comparison With SCIS 1.0 to learn how processes used in the two versions of SCIS are different.

Do my EMV payment partners need to update their plug-ins?

No, all current payment integrations should work using SCIS 2.0. Your payment partners do not need to update the plug-in applications installed on your tablets or workstations.

Were some SCIS features changed or replaced?

Yes, when building SCICS 2.0 we made updates to these features found in SCIS 1.0:

SICS 1.0 Feature

Changed or Replaced?

In SCIS 2.0

Suspend/Resume

Changed

Suspending a transaction does not save the order in NetSuite ERP with a POS Status of Suspended.

Instead, suspended transactions are visible on the originating mobile device.

Void Line

Replaced

We replaced the SCIS 1.0 method of displaying a voided line in the cart. Now you will see a delete-type behavior that removes the voided line.

Sales Orders

Changed

Sales orders do not support purchasing inventory items that are out of stock.

Are any SCIS 1.0 features not yet supported for SCIS 2.0?

Yes, the following features are not included in the current 2.0 release. We expect to make the features available to SCIS 2.0 in the future.

  • Quotes – When the option to convert a quote to an order becomes available, the order cannot be updated prior to the payment step.

  • TIP/Rounding – This feature is for tax-inclusive rounding, and is typically used outside the United States.

SCIS 2.0 Rollout

Can we choose between SCIS 1.0 and 2.0?

Yes. After the SCIS 1.0 2023.2 release is installed on your devices automatically, you can enable SCIS 2.0 for specific devices or locations. This option means you can try SCIS 2.0 on as little as one device and then add devices as you begin seeing the benefits found in the new version.

See SCIS 2.0 Enabling a Mobile Device for more information.

Will SCIS 2.0 replace 1.0?

Yes, we plan to phase out SCIS 1.0 at some point in the future This step will occur after we ensure feature parity between the two versions. We will communicate the dates when they are available.
