The following section covers frequently asked questions and troubleshooting related to the migration from Legacy Tax to SuiteTax.

Do I have to pay to gain access to SuiteTax?

No, the SuiteTax feature is available at no cost unless you choose a partner solution.

The following NetSuite tax engines are also free of charge:

  • SuiteTax Engine

  • India Localization SuiteTax Engine

  • Latam SuiteTax Engine

Who are the partners that offer SuiteTax integration?

How long does it take to implement SuiteTax?

This varies per account. These are some of the factors that affect the implementation:

  • number of subsidiaries and countries where you operate

  • number of nexuses

  • number of entities

  • number of items

  • complexity of tax requirements

  • existing customizations or scripting that involve any tax-related records

  • internal or third party implementation resources

Customers migrating from legacy tax may need to additionally consider their existing customizations or scripting that involve any tax-related records.

What will happen to my existing third party integrations?

You must contact your vendor to check for SuiteTax compatibility.

Will I need any paid professional services to migrate to SuiteTax?

It depends on the amount of customization and external scripting solutions on the account and if you have the knowledge within your internal team to set up taxes using SuiteTax. We have a detailed setup guide (NetSuite SuiteTax Engine Setup Guide) and an implementation checklist (to access the checklist, go to SuiteTax Implementation Checklist Reference) that can be used to assess if your team can handle the configuration or not. If you do not have the resources, then you should engage our Professional Services team or a partner for the SuiteTax migration or implementation.

How can I use SuiteTax? I don't see it in on the Enable Features page.

To enable the SuiteTax feature, go to Setup > Company > Enable Features > Tax subtab. When you enable the SuiteTax feature, you may see certain information messages. The messages you see depend on which preferences you have enabled or disabled. All required actions need to be performed before you can enable the feature. For more information, see Enabling the SuiteTax Feature

You should test SuiteTax in your Sandbox account before enabling the feature in your production account.

When does migration of records and transactions happen?

Migration of records and transactions starts when the SuiteTax feature is enabled. Transactions for the last three years are migrated asynchronously. You can migrate older transactions on demand by opening the transaction record. During migration, SuiteTax determines and assigns the subsidiary tax registration and entity tax registration, and generates the tax details for the legacy transaction. For more information, see Transactions in SuiteTax.

What happens to the tax codes and tax rates used on transactions that were created in legacy tax?

All tax codes created in legacy tax are inactivated when the SuiteTax feature is enabled. You will still be able to see legacy tax codes and tax rates used on transactions as these are preserved and are part of the transactions tax details.

What happens to existing transactions during SuiteTax migration?

The details and the GL impact of all historical transactions are preserved and remain unchanged after SuiteTax migration.

How long does it take for the migration of records and transactions to complete?

It depends on the volume of records and transactions. You can check the data migration status by going to Setup > Taxes > SuiteTax Migration.

Can I still view transactions that are more than three years old?

Yes, you can. Older transactions are migrated on demand when you open the transaction record.

Are transactions that are more than three years old searchable?

Yes, they are.

Can I still use tax bundles, such as International Tax Reports and Tax Audit Files?

Bundles have equivalent replacements in SuiteTax and need to be uninstalled. Some partner solutions take a similar approach, while others enhance their solutions to support both legacy tax and SuiteTax. Please reach out to your partner contacts for their SuiteTax support.
