Viewing the Advanced SaaS Metrics Roll Forward Report

You can view the renewal, upsell, downsell, and churn amounts for the entire year and itemized per month in the roll forward report on the dashboard. Detailed ARR (annual recurring revenue) and MRR (monthly recurring revenue) reports are also available when you click on the new, renewal, upsell, downsell, and churn amounts.

To view the Advanced Saas Metrics roll forward report:

  1. Go to Reports > SaaS Metrics > Dashboard.

  2. Scroll to the Roll Forward Report section. Click the ARR or MRR subtab to display the following reports.

    • ARR roll forward report – This report shows the ARR beginning balance, new, upsell, downsell, churn, and ending balance amounts per month for the current year. Amounts are shown in the subsidiary's currency.

ARR amounts are annualized. For contracts with terms that are less than or equal to 12 months, the ARR amount is the contract amount.

For contracts with terms greater than 12 months, the ARR amount is computed as the contract amount, divided by the term, and multiplied by 12.

    • MRR roll forward report – This report shows the MRR new, renewal, upsell, downsell, and churn amounts per month for the current year. Amounts are shown in the subsidiary's currency.

MRR amounts are computed monthly. For example, if you have a contract in January amounting to $12,000 USD with a 12-month term, this amount appears as $1,000 USD every month from January to December.

MRR is computed as the contract amount divided by the term in months.

If the contract term is less than one month, the MRR is the contract amount.

The following information are available in the ARR roll forward report.

    Row

    Description

    Beginning Balance

This is the beginning balance at every month.

The beginning balance for the next month is the ending balance of the previous month.

    New

This is the total amount from new subscriptions or contracts for a specific month.

    Upsell

This is the total amount from subscriptions or contracts that have been upgraded or generate more revenue than the original subscription or contract amount.

    Downsell

This is the total amount from subscriptions or contracts that have been downgraded or generate lesser revenue than the original subscription or contract amount.

Downsell amounts are reflected as negative amounts.

RMA (return merchandise authorization) records or returns of merchandise are considered as downsell amounts.

    Churn

This is the total amount from subscriptions or contracts that have been canceled or terminated.

Churn amounts are reflected as negative amounts.

    Ending Balance

The ending balance amount is the beginning balance plus the sum of all new, upsell, downsell, and churn amounts for the month.

The ending balance for the month becomes the beginning balance for the next month.

The following information are available on the MRR roll forward report.

    Row

    Description

    New

This is the total monthly amount for new subscriptions or contracts for the month.

    Renewal

This is the total monthly amount for renewed subscriptions or contracts for the month.

    Upsell

This is the total monthly amount of subscriptions or contracts that have been upgraded or generate more revenue than the original subscription or contract amount for the month.

Upsell amount is calculated as the difference between the renewal monthly contract amount and the previous monthly contract amount.

For example, Contract A has a 6-month term and 6000 as the contract amount. This amount appears as 1000 monthly in the New row. If Contract A gets renewed as Contract B with the same 6-month term but with 7200 as the contract amount, then the Renewal row displays 1000 monthly for 6 months and the Upsell row displays 200 monthly for 6 months.

    Downsell

This is the total monthly amount of subscriptions or contracts that have been downgraded or generate lesser revenue than the original contract amount for the month.

Downsell amount is calculated as the difference between the renewal monthly contract amount and the previous monthly contract amount.

For example, Contract A has a 6-month term and 6000 as the contract amount. This amount appears as 1000 monthly in the New row. If Contract A gets renewed as Contract B with the same 6-month term but with 4200 as the contract amount, then the Renewal row displays 1000 monthly for 6 months and the Downsell row displays –300 monthly for 6 months.

Downsell amounts are reflected as negative amounts.

RMA (return merchandise authorization) records or returns of merchandise are considered as downsell amounts.

    Churn

This is the total monthly amount of subscriptions or contracts that have been canceled or are not renewed for the month.

Churn amounts are reflected as negative amounts.

    Total

This is the total monthly amount when all the new, renewal, upsell, downsell, and churn amounts are added.

  3. (Optional) Click on the new, renewal, upsell, downsell, and churn amounts in the ARR and MRR roll forward report for details on how the amount was derived.

The detailed ARR and MRR reports show the contracts and transactions that contribute to the computation of the amount.
