Redwood: Create an Operation Applicability Rule for an Assemble To Order Model Item Work Definition in a New User Experience
In a prior release, you could search for, create, and edit work definitions for Assemble to Order (ATO) model items using Redwood pages but couldn't access their applicability rules for option-dependent operations. An operational applicability rule defines the criteria to include an option-dependent operation in a configured item work order based on the selections made during the product configuration process.
Using the Redwood user experience, you can now augment ATO model work definitions and add a group of operation applicability rules based on the optional components selected from the multilevel ATO model item structure. For an option-dependent operation, you can create, edit, and delete applicability rules, which contain a set of conditions that apply to any combination of optional items from the structure. The list of items includes current and future effective option classes and options and show its component hierarchy relative to the top level ATO model item. These operation applicability rules are subsequently evaluated during the automatic creation of a configured item work order to dynamically generate the list of operations including mandatory and option-dependent operations.

Applicability Rules for Work Definition Operation
Operation applicability rules for option-dependent operations allow manufacturers the flexibility to adapt their production processes to make configured products.
Here's the demo of these capabilities:
Steps to Enable
To use this feature, enable the 24B feature, Search for, Create, and Edit a Standard Item Work Definition Using the Redwood User Experience.
Follow these steps to enable or disable this feature:
- Enable the Profile
- In the Setup and Maintenance work area, search for and select the Manage Administrator Profile Values task.
- On the Manage Administrator Profile Values page, search for and select the ORA_WIS_WORK_DEFINITIONS_REDWOOD_ENABLED profile option code.
- In the Profile Values section, set the Site level to Y or N. The default value of the profile option is N.
- Y = enables the feature
- N = disables the feature
- Click Save and Close. Changes in the profile value will affect users the next time they sign in.
- The Manage Work Definitions page in the Redwood user experience is based on an elastic index. Run the following scheduled processes, when the work definitions are created using Import Work Definition Scheduled Process or using REST API to populate the details in the Manage Work Definitions page in the Redwood user experience.
(Navigation: Tools > Scheduled Processes > Schedule New Process)
- Scheduled process 'ESS job to create index definition and perform initial ingest to OSCS' should be run one time initially. Input parameter Index name should be set as fa-scm-wis-work-definitions.
- Scheduled process 'ESS job to run Bulk ingest to OSCS' should be run periodically with input parameter Program Name as MFG_WD_BULK_INGEST.
You'll have the option to enable or disable this feature.
Tips And Considerations
- You can continue using existing operation applicability rules. However, any new or updated operation applicability rule must be done using the Redwood page.
- You can't build an operation applicability rule based on transactional item attributes currently.
-
You can't create, edit or delete operation applicability rules by REST API, ADFdi and FBDI currently.
- As a recommended practice, you can use an applicability rule when optional components aren't assigned to the option-dependent operation. If both an operation-item assignment and operation applicability rule exist for the same item, then the applicability rule isn't evaluated.
