Review redlined changes in electronic signature enabled recipes

Redwood Platform

Currently, when modifying an approved recipe with electronic signature enabled, you must first create a new draft version. In the draft version, operation child entities—such as operation materials and operation resources—are read-only. For example, to update the supply type of an operation material, you must manually duplicate the associated operation, delete the original operation, and then update the material on the newly created operation.

With this update, you can modify operation child entity attributes without manually duplicating the operation. After creating a new draft recipe version, you can directly update attributes such as the supply type of an operation material. When you make the change, the associated operation is automatically copied to the draft version. The copied operation’s start date is aligned with the recipe version start date, ensuring that the changes apply only to the new version while preserving the integrity of previous versions.

Automatically Copied Operations

Changes made in the draft recipe version appear as redlined changes, making it easier to review differences from the approved version. When an attribute is modified, both the new and previous values are displayed, with the previous value shown as redlined. Newly added rows are highlighted in green, while deleted rows are highlighted in red with their values struck through.

User interfaces that don’t support redlined changes are listed in the Tips and Considerations section. A badge indicating the number of changed rows is also displayed next to each data grid label.

After the recipe version is approved, the redlined changes are no longer displayed. You can view the approval outcome for the current approval cycle from the Approval Details page, which is accessible from the Versions page.

Eliminating the need to manually duplicate operations when modifying operation child entities reduces recipe maintenance effort, minimizes the risk of user errors, and streamlines the management of approved recipes. Redlined change visualization clearly identifies added, modified, and deleted data, making it easier to review changes accurately and helps accelerate the approval process.

Steps to enable and configure

If you want to use the Review redlined changes in electronic signature enabled recipes feature, then you must opt in to another feature: Review Redlined Changes in Electronic Signature-Enabled Work Definitions. If you’ve already opted in to this other feature, then you don’t have to opt in again.

Tips and considerations

  • These enhancements are available only with the Redwood experience, which can be enabled using the Redwood Work Definitions Enabled profile option.
  • There are no changes to the underlying approval process for electronic signature-enabled recipes.
  • There are no changes to approval notifications or electronic records for electronic signature-enabled recipes.
  • Recipe Versions
    • Existing recipe versions created before the 26D update that are in Draft or Pending Approval status won’t display redlined changes.
    • You must continue to manually duplicate operations in existing draft recipe versions created before the 26D update.
    • For new draft recipe versions created in 26D or later, you no longer need to duplicate operations manually. The system automatically copies the affected operation when a child entity is modified.
  • Redline Changes
    • Redline changes aren’t displayed for the first recipe version.
    • Redline changes are displayed in the following user interfaces: Operations, Operation Products, Operation Materials, Operation Resources, Operation Alternate Resources, and Parameters.
    • The Edit Recipe, Supplier Operation, and Additional Information pages use messages to indicate changes instead of displaying redlined values.
    • Redline changes aren’t supported in the following user interfaces: Operation Dependencies, Instructions, and Attachments.
  • Also refer to the 26D feature Review Redlined Changes in Electronic Signature-Enabled Work Definitions.
