Should I Use Redesigned or Classic Pages?
Use this topic to help you decide whether to use Oracle Order Management's redesigned page when you create a sales order or to continue with the classic page.
The redesigned page provides a range of functionality that isn't available on the classic page. We recommend that you use the redesigned page to create your sales orders for most implementations. Use this topic to help you decide.
Features
You can't currently use any of these features on the redesigned page:
- Coverages or subscriptions
- Assemble-to-order or pick-to-order configured items, or kits
- Credit cards
- Projects
- Reduce inventory without picking or shipping
- Manage channel programs on sales orders
Do you:

Functionality
The rest of this topic provides only a summary of the redesigned functionality. If you want details, see Redwood: Search and Apply Actions on Multiple Sales Orders.
Functionality | Redesigned | Classic |
---|---|---|
Submit, Cancel, or Reprice More Than One Order Line |
Yes Select hundreds or even thousands of lines all at once, and then submit, cancel, or reprice all of them. For example, query all orders in Draft status, and then submit all of them with a single click of Submit. |
No You can submit, cancel, or reprice only one line at a time. |
Use More Attributes to Start Your Sales Order |
Yes Set the Business Unit, and then you can continue with any of these attributes:
|
No You must start with one of these attributes:
|
Set Default Value for Business Unit |
Yes Use the ORA_FOM_DEFAULT_BUSINESS_UNIT order profile to set the default value. User can then start creating a sales order right away without having to enter any values. |
No Can't be done. |
Display Default Values for Customer Attributes | Supports Related, Single, and All Customers. | Supports only Single and All Customers. |
Specify Default Values for Tax Determinants |
No You can't use this parameter in the current update. You can set default values for tax determinants on the order line only when you save the sales order. Also, you can't modify the assessable value on the order line. This parameter will be available in a future update. |
Yes Supports the parameter. |
Improve Performance When Constraining Operations |
Yes If a processing constraint constrains the:
For background, see Processing Constraints. |
No Order Management applies entity constraints and attribute constraints for the Update operation and the Create operation. |
Schedule Before You Submit |
Yes Override the schedule on a new, draft, or change order. Allocate your high demand item. Schedule the order when you enter it but before you submit it. |
No You can schedule only after you submit. |
Make Sure Warehouse Can Use Shipping Method |
Yes Order Management validates that the warehouse can use the Shipping Method that you set on the order line. If not, then Order Management removes the shipping method and you must select another method. |
No Doesn't validate. You can select any method, but the warehouse might not be able to use that method and you'll receive an error during fulfillment. |
Implicit Save |
Yes Order Management implicitly saves your draft sales order when you go to the sales credits section or the shipment sets section. The save only saves your current attribute values. It doesn't run any pricing logic or order management extensions. |
No Order Management doesn't implicitly save your draft. |
Submit Even With Warning from Extension | Yes Order Management submits the order even if there's a warning from an order management extension. You can review the warning after you submit and take action, as necessary. |
No If there's a warning, then Order Management doesn't submit the order. You must fix the problem, and then submit. |
Use an Adaptive Interface |
Yes Redesigned pages adapt and adjust layout according to your screen size. This is particularly helpful when you have a smaller display, such as a 14" laptop. |
No Classic pages don't adapt. |
Use Generative AI |
Yes
|
No |
Optimize Pricing |
Yes Order Management prices your sales order only when you save it, reducing the number of times it has to reprice your order. |
No Order Management prices each order line when you create or modify it. That might degrade performance. |
Query By Example
|
No You can filter lines only according to these attributes:

Set Default Values for Revision Reason and Revision Comment |

No You must implement extensible flexfields to achieve this functionality. |
Cancel Order Even If Some Lines Are Fulfilled |
Yes Cancel a sales order even after Order Management fulfills one or more of the order's lines. |
No You can cancel the sales order only if all lines are still open, not fulfilled. |
Use Transformation Rules |
No If you want to use redesigned pages and you currently use Oracle Business Rules to define transformation rules, then you must rewrite and replace that rule logic in an order management extension. Order Management supports Visual Information Builder for pretransformation rules, but will deprecate all transformation rules in Oracle Business Rules at some point in the future. |
Yes Yes, but we recommend that you move your rule logic to an order management extension. |
Response Time in Seconds |
No This order management parameter isn't available yet. It will be in an upcoming release. |
Yes You can use this parameter now. |
Copy Sales Orders
Functionality | Redesigned | Classic |
---|---|---|
Copy While You Edit | Yes You can copy a new sales order after you save it. You can copy while you edit the order. |
No |
Prevent Copy Line When Line is Already Priced |
Yes Order Management prevents you from copying a line that's already priced. Avoid an error when you submit the sales order. |
No You can copy the line when you copy the sales order, but the order will fail when you click Submit. |
Use Shipment Set from Your Shipping System |
Yes If you add a check mark to Ship Lines Together, submit the order, revise it, and then copy the order line, then Order Management assigns the copied line to the shipment set that your shipping system sent to Order Management. |
No Order Management assigns the copied line to the default shipment set which might create an error when you submit the sales order. |
Keep Line Status Consistent |
Yes If you copy an order line in a draft order, then Order Management sets the new line's status to Not Started. The other lines in the order are also Not Started. |
No If you copy an order line in a draft order, then Order Management sets the new line's status to Created, but the other lines are at Not Started. Having different statuses is confusing, but Order Management will still process all lines when you click Submit. |
Use More Precise Contract Dates |
Yes If you copy a sales order, and if the contract start date:
|
No Order Management resets the contract start date to the current date regardless of when the contract start date happens on the copied order. If you copy an order line, then Order Management keeps the value from the copied line regardless of when the contract start date happens. |
Freeze Tax Without Freezing Price and Shipping Charges | Yes |
No You must first freeze pricing and shipping charges, and then freeze tax.
|
Copy Additional Information and Attachments on Each Line | Yes Specify whether to copy them for each line when you copy the line. |
No You can only specify them for all lines when you copy the sales order. |
Copy Billing Plan |
No

Holds
Functionality | Redesigned | Classic |
---|---|---|
View and Manage Holds |
Yes Access the Holds tab or dialog from various locations, such as Additional Order Details on the order header, then use it to manage all holds on the order and order lines. The Holds tab or dialog includes Releasable Holds, Unactionable Holds, and Released Holds sections. You can select one or more releasable holds on the order or lines, and then release them. You can release a hold while you're viewing the hold's details. |
No Doesn't have Releasable Holds, Unactionable Holds, and Released Holds sections. Can't release a hold while viewing the hold's details. Can click Actions > Holds > Release on the order header to release holds on the sales order, but you can't release holds on the order line from the header. |
Simplify Holds During Fulfillment |
Yes The redesigned page has relabeled the fulfillment line data that you're used to seeing on the classic page. It refers to fulfillment line data as an order line. The redesigned page doesn't display the order line data that you see in the classic page. If you've been using the classic page, just keep in mind that you're actually managing holds on fulfillment line data even though the redesigned page labels them as order lines. This simplifies holds because you don't need to worry about managing them on order lines and also on fulfillment lines. |
No You can apply and release holds on order lines and fulfillment lines. |
Search Sales Orders and Order Lines for Holds |
Yes Use one or more hold names to search sales orders or order lines in a single request. |
No Can search for the hold name only on the order header, not the order line. Can use only one hold name at a time to search sales orders. |
Use the Applied Status |
Yes Displays Active, Applied, and Released status. |
No Displays Active and Released, but displays applied hold as an active hold. |
Get More Flexibility When You Release Holds |
Yes Select one or more sales orders or order lines, then release some or all holds. For example, assume you apply Hold Create Ship on line 1, Hold Create Receive on line 2, and Hold Create Activity on the order header. You can select lines 1 and 2, and then release Hold Create Ship and Hold Create Receive at the same time, or you can click View All on the banner, then pick and choose which ones to release. |
No Not as flexible. |
