Geographic Hierarchy

This page is accessed via Shipment Management > Power Data > Geography > Geography Hierarchy.

A geography hierarchy is a set of address components (for example, city, state, zip code) ranked by specificity.

The system uses the most specific components to differentiate locations. A lower rank indicates a more specific component. Geo Hierarchies may be combined into a set called a Geo Hierarchy Profile.

The geography hierarchies are used to determine the rate records based on the source and destination addresses of the shipment. For more information, see Rate Lane Geo Hierarchy.

You can use geo hierarchies to assign relationships to address components and specify the order in which those components display. For example, you can specify that the city component include the city and the country. That way, the system can differentiate between London, England and London, Ohio.

Creating a New Geo Hierarchy

  1. Enter the Geo Hierarchy ID to which a particular component is assigned. For example, city, state/province, location, US ZIP5.
  2. Enter a Rank number. Oracle Transportation Management determines the most specific geographic hierarchy value based on the rank assigned to each. A lower rank indicates a more specific value.
  3. To associate a geography hierarchy to a particular country, enter a Country Code. This is the three-digit ISO-3166 code of the country.
  4. Enter the Component ID of the geography hierarchy that you are describing. For example, the geo hierarchy ID of CITY may have three (3) components of city, province code, and country code, each with a Level number. The geo hierarchy of CITY/COUNTRY is an example using two (2) Component IDs.  The Component ID of CITY has a Level of 1, while the Component ID of COUNTRY_CODE3 has a Level of 2.  A Geo Hierarchy can use multiple Hname Component IDs with different Level number assignments.
  5. Enter a user Level. A user level determines the functions that can be accessed by a user.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Click Finished.
